Educational Wednesday! 🤓

Today, Dr. Dreewes removed 170mL of excess fluid from around the lungs of a 10lb feline! THAT’S 5 FLUID OUNCES 🤯

Imagine trying to blow up a balloon while someone is squeezing it from the outside.

That's similar to what happens when fluid or air builds up around a pet's lungs. By removing that buildup, we're taking away some of that pressure so the lungs have room to expand!

Kitty’s respiratory improved significantly after this procedure. A sample was sent to the lab, and we will reevaluate our furry friend next week!

(Noting that we did not use those huge needles to remove the fluid from our patient, just to collect it from the bowl to show the owner)

Our assistant Keilie with her 3 furry felines, brought in for treatment 🤣 You do what you gotta do!

She is an amazing cat mom! Max (tabby) was a surrender to our hospital in Sept 2025 weighing in at a whopping 0.7lbs, maturing into a healthy happy boy.

Keilie has recently adopted Boxie, our Mississippi rescue who is also heart worm positive. She is keeping up with her health screenings as recommended, and Boxie is doing fabulous!

Simon is.. Simon. He has a smooth brain. No ridges or lumps, valley or bumps. All ideas slide off, like a water slide 😻

🐾 World Su***de Prevention Day

Veterinary medicine is built on compassion. They chose this career because they wanted to make a difference in the lives of animals and the people who love them, and most of the time it can be incredibly rewarding but it can also take its toll.

Veterinarians and veterinary professionals face a significantly higher risk of su***de than the general population. The emotional demands of the job, compassion fatigue, long hours, financial stress, and the reality of losing patients can really effect ones mental health. They deal with incredible pain and then have to put a smile on their face and walk into the next room with a clear head.

That’s why we want to remind everyone of something simple:

Be kind. You never know what someone is going through.

Be patient with the receptionist who is having a difficult morning.
Give your Veterinary Technician’s and Assistant’s a little grace.
Thank your Veterinarian.
Check in on your coworkers.
And don't be afraid to ask someone if they are okay.

Sometimes a small act of kindness can mean more than you realize.

And if you are struggling, please know that you are not alone. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Bernadette got to meet this wonderful couple prior to her adoption. Today, they came to seal the deal, and she immediately went to the gentleman’s lap to lay down 🥹

One comment they made really stuck with us. “She’s the right amount of sweet and spice!”, we just knew they totally got her personality!

Congratulations, Bernie ❤️ We’ll miss you.

BUNNY - in a Mississippi shelter for NINE months. At our hospital for TWO months.

All her friends have found homes and she's all alone. Nobody to call family for almost ONE WHOLE YEAR. Won't you give her a chance?

She is about 2 years old, spayed, microchipped and fully vaccinated. She's a very happy girl and loves people. She likes (most) dogs and gets along with cats.

She is off to resume school, we will miss having her around to give endless love and care to our patients and the ability to brighten our crazy Fridays!
