Precious buddy.. waiting to be scooped up and loved! Stratham NH
Meet 6-year-old Buddy. Buddy has no eyes. (Update: Adopted! â„ïž)
It's the first thing you'll likely notice about him, so let's start there. Years ago, an eye infection became so severe that his vet recommended removing his eyes. Buddy has had a long time to adjust, and he's gotten pretty good at it. He works out a new space quickly and gets around better than you'd expect. His favorite spot is a shelf on top of his cat tree.
We'll be honest: shelter life has been a lot for him. With all the strange sounds and the constant bustle, Buddy has been mostly withdrawn and nervous here. That makes sense for a cat who only knows the world through sound and touch. Once he learns your voice and your hands, though, a very sweet boy comes through. He loves affection and gentle pets, and he'd rather you come to him than be scooped up. Sit beside him and start talking, then he'll take it from there.

Thinking about adopting a blind cat? A few tips to help them feel safe:
1. Start small. Set up one quiet room with food, water, a bed, and a litter box. Open up the rest of your home a little at a time as they gain confidence.
2. Keep things in place. Blind cats memorize their surroundings, so try not to move furniture, bowls, or the litter box, and keep floors clear of clutter.
3. Use your voice. Speak softly when you enter a room or reach out to pet them, so your touch never comes as a surprise.
4. Let them walk. Being carried can be disorienting. If you do pick them up, set them down somewhere familiar, like near their food bowl.
