May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month 🐾

With warmer weather and more outdoor adventures, the risk of tick exposure increases—even in your own backyard. But it’s not just a seasonal concern anymore. With the mild winters we’ve been experiencing, we’re seeing fleas and ticks stick around even in December and January.

Here’s what you need to know about protecting your pets:
• Stay consistent with year-round flea and tick prevention
• Check your pets regularly, especially after time outdoors
• Keep your yard maintained to reduce tick habitats

Protecting your pet starts with prevention. If you have questions about what’s best for your pet, give us a call—we’re here to help!

✨🐾FUN CASE FRIDAY!🐾✨

Dr. Gibbs saw a fun case recently of a MALE calico kitten!
For those who do not know, male calico cats are a rare occurrence in the feline world. While calico coloring—typically a mix of white, black, and orange—is common in female cats, it appears in only 1 in every 3,000 males. This rarity is due to genetics: the genes responsible for orange and black fur are carried on the X chromosome, and most males (with one X and one Y chromosome) can only express one of those colors. Male calicos usually have an extra X chromosome (XXY), a condition similar to Klinefelter syndrome in humans.

Because of this genetic difference, most male calico cats are sterile and cannot reproduce.

📣🚨UPDATE!!! Both dogs have returned home safe and sound!

LOST DOGS:
These two dogs, a Golden doodle and a Labrador were first spotted near the Decorah Vet Clinic. Last seen on Mills Street near family table. Looking very tired and scared. We were not able to get close to them to get them to safety.

Happy Veterinary Receptionist Week! 🐾

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. 🐾💙 From answering calls with compassion to guiding clients through stressful moments, our veterinary receptionists are truly the heart of our clinic.

They keep the chaos organized, the lobby warm and welcoming, and the entire team on track—all while balancing ringing phones, busy schedules, and the occasional unexpected pet adventure 😄

A very special thank you to Kayla and Nikki, as well as our float receptionists Skye and Andrew, for your kindness, patience, and dedication to every pet and every person who walks through our doors. Your hard work and heart do not go unnoticed—we are so grateful for you every single day, and lucky to have you all on our team.🐾❤️
