If your dog barks, destroys things, or panics the moment you leave...you've probably been told they're spoiled.

Or that you just need to ignore it. Or that a crate will fix it.

None of that gets to the root of what's actually happening!

Separation anxiety is a panic disorder. And like any panic disorder it doesn't respond to tough love or containment. It responds to the right treatment plan carried out consistently over time.

If your dog can’t be alone without panicking, our team of multi-certified dog trainers can help!

We firmly believe that training and learning doesn’t have to feel like work! It can be all smiles, play, and plenty of tail wags 😍

Every trainer has a reason they do this work. This is ours.

We specialize in the dogs who are struggling, the ones who are afraid, overwhelmed, and misunderstood.

The ones who haven't found the right help yet.

If that sounds like your dog, we'd love to work with them.

When you're doing behavior modification with a reactive dog, progress doesn't always look like progress.

It looks like...
-one bark instead of five
-a nose to the ground instead of a lunge
-a treat accepted where last week there was nothing but panic

These moments are easy to dismiss because they don't look like the "fixed" version you're working toward. But they are the work.

Every one of them is your dog's nervous system learning that the world is a little safer than it was yesterday.

Small wins are bigger than they seem and they're proof that it's working!

Follow if you're in the trenches of dog behavior modification and need people who get it!

Toby had quite the fan club during his Board & Train stay ❤️

Not only did he spend time learning new skills and building good habits, but he also received plenty of love and attention from everyone on our team!

We love creating an environment where dogs can learn, have fun, and feel like part of the family! 🐾

Some transformations happen on the other end of the leash. This happened with one of our client’s mom, someone who had spent her whole life being afraid of dogs.

It was important to take this slowly and not force the interaction. Our Trainer, Sarah, helped her understand Lucky like how she communicates, what she needs, and what makes her feel safe.

And slowly but surely, her fear started to dissolve. She didn't just learn to tolerate Lucky. She learned to enjoy her!

That's what we mean when we say we don't just train dogs. We change the dynamic for everyone in the family!

This sweet boy is Nacho. ❤️

Recently, Nacho had both of his eyes removed due to detached retinas and glaucoma. Just a few days after surgery, he came to stay with us, and we couldn't be more proud of how well he did.

Here are a few things we focused on during his stay:

🐾 helping him feel safe and comfortable by keeping his routine as consistent as possible

🐾 guided him outdoors on leash and gave him plenty of time to explore the yard through sniffing

🐾 offered lots of reassurance along the way

Dogs are incredibly resilient, and Nacho reminded us of that every day! While his world may look different now, he continues to navigate it with courage and curiosity. We're so grateful to have been a small part of his recovery journey!

One hill we'll always die on: training should NEVER feel like something your dog dreads.

It should help the dog feel safe and that the world is more manageable than they thought.

It should make them feel that the person on the other end of the leash is someone they can fully trust.

That's what every trainer at Canine PhD strives for. This is our standard.

Follow if you want to learn from dog trainers who prioritize your dog's well-being 🙌
