This National Veterinary Technician Week, we're celebrating the incredible Associates who make our hospitals thrive — like Karen, who began as a CSR and never stopped growing and like Joanne, who sought mentorship and support to obtain her VTNE.

At VCA, we're proud to champion our veterinary technicians every step of the way — offering mentorship, encouragement, and the resources to help you reach your full potential.

To every vet tech in our VCA family: thank you. What you do matters deeply — to our teams, to our patients, and to the pet owners who trust us with their most beloved companions.

Every surgery starts long before the first incision. It starts with a veterinary technician who has spent years mastering their skills, anticipating needs, monitoring vitals, and showing up fully prepared for every patient who comes through the door.

Vet techs are the heart of every OR team, and their skill and dedication make a difference every single day. At some VCA specialty hospitals, we take surgical collaboration even further. Some of our teams include Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) — professionals who earned specialized degrees specifically to support surgeons in the OR.

The result? Less time under anesthesia. Better outcomes. And a team that truly works as one. 💙

Because every patient is somebody's pet — and they deserve nothing less than the best.

🐾 Firework Tip #5 (Bonus): Play White Noise 🎆

Sometimes the simplest tricks can make a big difference.

Playing white noise, calming music, or even leaving the TV on can help mask the sounds of fireworks and create a more relaxing environment for your pet. Pair this with their favorite blankets, toys, and safe space to help them feel as secure as possible.

💙 A few reminders before the holiday:
✔️ Exercise your pet early in the day.
✔️ Prepare their safe space before fireworks begin.
✔️ Close windows and curtains to reduce noise and flashes.
✔️ Make sure collars, ID tags, and microchip information are up to date in case your pet becomes frightened and escapes.
✔️ If your pet needs anxiety medication, be sure to contact your veterinarian before the holiday.

🎇 Thank you for following along with our "5 Tips to Help With Firework Anxiety" series! We hope these tips help make the Fourth of July a little less stressful for you and your furry family members.

From all of us at VCA Daytona Animal Hospital, we wish you a safe, happy, and fun Independence Day! 🇺🇸❤️🐾

🐾 Firework Tip #4: Try Calming Aids 🎆

Some pets need a little extra support during fireworks—and that's okay!

For pets with mild anxiety, calming supplements containing ingredients like L-theanine may help promote relaxation. Other options, such as calming chews, pheromone products, or anxiety wraps, can also be beneficial for some pets.

If your pet has moderate to severe anxiety, prescription anti-anxiety medications may be the safest and most effective option.

💙 Don't wait until the last minute! If your pet has taken anxiety medication before or you think they may need it this Fourth of July, please contact us as soon as possible so we can discuss the best options and refill any necessary medications before the holiday.

Remember, every pet is different. What works for one may not work for another, so we're happy to help you find the best plan for your furry family member.

✨ Tomorrow is our final tip in our 5 Tips to Help with Firework Anxiety series!

🐾 Firework Tip #1: Exercise Before the Festivities Begin! 🎆

One of the easiest ways to help your pet cope with fireworks is to get them moving earlier in the day!

A long walk, game of fetch, or outdoor play session can help burn off extra energy and promote a calmer, more relaxed state before the fireworks start.

💙 Keep in mind:
• Exercise your pet before fireworks are expected to begin.
• Stick to familiar routes and avoid staying out after dark.
• Always keep your dog on a secure leash, as unexpected fireworks can happen earlier than planned.

While exercise won't eliminate anxiety for every pet, it's a great first step in helping them have a more comfortable holiday.

✨ Check back tomorrow for Firework Tip #2 as we continue our 5 Tips to Help with Firework Anxiety series!
