Mission of Mary Cooperative

Mission of Mary Cooperative The Mission of Mary Cooperative is an urban farming non-profit on the east side of Dayton, Ohio.

The Mission of Mary Cooperative is a 501c3 organization that operates a network of urban farm locations on the eastside of Dayton. We strive to form community in our neighborhood around the food that we grow and the land that we care for. We are committed to participating in a just food system that ensures all are able to access and afford healthy food options. We have been growing and distributin

g healthy, chemical free produce since 2010 and continue to expand our growing operations. We operate a 24 week CSA membership program with a dual price model, a seasonal farm stand, and several youth and adult educational programs seasonally. The evolution of Mission of Mary Cooperative is on-going and we are excited to share this journey with you. Please join us in congratulating Mission of Mary Cooperative Executive Director Michael Schulz on graduating from the Leadership Dayton Class of 2026 through the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce!

Leadership Dayton has helped connect and develop leaders throughout the Dayton region for more than 50 years, and we are grateful to have invested in this opportunity for leadership growth, learning, and community engagement.

Over the past year, Michael joined 46 fellow leaders in exploring the strengths, challenges, and opportunities that shape our region while building relationships with leaders from across the Dayton community. We are excited to see how the insights, connections, and experiences gained through Leadership Dayton continue to strengthen Mission of Mary's work cultivating community through nutritious food access, education, and land stewardship in East Dayton.

We are also proud that Mission of Mary's connection to Leadership Dayton extends beyond our staff. Current board members Brandon Meyer and Daniel Wolking, along with future board members Alex Keller and Heather Finlayson, are Leadership Dayton alumni who bring valuable leadership, expertise, and community connections to our organization.

Congratulations, Michael, and congratulations to the entire Leadership Dayton Class of 2026! We look forward to the impact this class will continue to make throughout the Dayton region.

Ride along to learn a little about how we build raised garden beds for our neighbors!

We pre-build frames from recycled plastic lumber, and place cardboard underneath for w**d control. Then we fill the bed with a mixture of different types of organic matter: compost, pine bark, rice hulls, leaf mulch, and peat moss.

We provide free seeds and seedlings every year for our neighbors in the backyard garden program, as well as any tools they need. The program is completely free to participants, but we only have funding for a certain number of beds per year.

Shoutout to all the volunteers who helped us build this year, especially our friends from Good Shepherd Ministries!
