Happy 2nd Birthday to our Shy Guy Cashew! πŸŽ‰πŸ˜˜

We've been sooo busy trying to get back on track after being very sick. But luckily had time to take Cashew on his first officially walk/outing😍

He's still a bit confused when feeling leash pressure πŸ˜… but thoroughly enjoyed zoomies in a field with his sister. We're so lucky he has strong bond & natural desire to be with his person! This makes his recall flawless, which will make adventures easier on him when we can allow him more space & trust with a long line.

We look forward to many more lovely moments with our Shew BoiπŸ₯°

Day 3 of Board & Training - a look at change sensitivity.

Animals are extremely sensitive to change; whether it's routine, environment, etc. Every detail of the picture in front of them is studied so they can confidently expect what is to happen next.

This is why we are patient and creative while dogs are adjusting in our home. Mika isn't used to having multiple dogs running around, and it's proving to be quite the distraction!
We take this opportunity to shape social skills; but more importantly, utilize the distraction for her recall training.

Curious about our Board & Train Program? Shoot us a message!

Day 1 of Miss Mika's Board & Train!

Although we've had day visits, there is still an adjustment period for the first 1-3 days. That means:

- Low Expectations; Rewarding for existing
- Enforcing boundaries without corrections & heavily rewarding choices I prefer
- Supervising, managing, and guiding all interactions between dogs

Today we learned:
- Backyard is overwhelming! Mika's primary goal is a long distance recall cue via an electronic collar. While I wanted to play our "Vibrate = Reward" game outside, Mika said she'd rather ease into the backyard environment.
- Friends don't like to be pestered! Mika loses access to her new canine friends if she doesn't acknowledge their polite cues to be left alone. Social Skills are included with our B&T Program (at a level your dog is personally comfortable with).
- Not all men, but always a manπŸ˜‰ jk lol - Mika witnessed the existence of the man that lives in our home and was very shookπŸ˜… So many surprises and changes!!

We will update when we can, but our focus is working with Mika for the next two weeks. We're so very excited to utilize an electronic collar in a Fear Free training plan! The vibrate has already been tested to ensure the individual doesn't find it aversive, then conditioned with a primary reinforcer. The collar will NOT be used to communicate correction; it will instead be a Recall Cue that can be used off leash at a long distance.

Do Mika's goals sound similar to yours? Or maybe you're just curious about our Board & Train Program?

Kylie got to give fluids at home for her first time everπŸ™ƒ Courage recently developed a fever, began declining again, and has reset a doxycycline treatment. Second Chance Rescue also helped us, again, with a more comprehensive tick borne illness test. Dr Sue has a theory and will update us with results later this week.

We are still in A LOT of debt ... Courage the Cowardly Dog continues to battle an unknown diagnosis, which of course costs way too much money. A lot of money spent to be told the tests are showing a "normal" dog even though he struggles to walk and retain weight. His human mother continues to do all she can to keep him comfortable while we seek answers and a solid treatment. He may never properly silly goof again- but we're still trying to get that spirit back
