Day camp dog, Rosie, started learning nosework today, and this is your reminder that mental enrichment is not about doing more stuff with your dog.

It is about giving them something that actually makes them think and problem solve.

She’s working through a problem, using her nose, and learning how to stay engaged without getting frustrated or frantic. That kind of work builds confidence and creates a dog that can settle instead of constantly needing more, more, more.

A lot of “high energy” dogs are really just under fulfilled mentally. This kind of outlet meets them where they are and teaches them how to use their brain in a productive way.

Obviously, Rosie is just getting started, but is already figuring out how to work her nose and her brain.

On February 11, 2026, I said goodbye to the dog that started it all, my OG best boy, Lupe. Lupe was the gateway dog for so many things for me… Rat Terriers, dog sports, and ultimately dog training. I adopted him in 2016 from the local Humane Society back home in WV. In 2017, we moved to Ohio and eventually started our journey in dog sports. He and I participated in barn hunt, nose work, CAT, and Fast CAT. Barn hunt was his absolute favorite. He traveled to 27 states for sports and also pleasure, and loved all the adventures we went on. He was my best friend and the best teammate I could have asked for in my first sport dog, and my first dog as an adult. I miss him so much, but I know he is helping me to live the best possible life with Whini, Dice, and other dogs that may come in the future.

Thank you to my clients for understanding, kind words, and support as I took the last few days to grieve. I still find myself checking under the blankets or inside the cave bed for him.

Here’s to you, Lupe! May you be chasing all the bunnies and hunting all the ratties across the rainbow bridge.

Welcome, Scout 🐾💙

This 8-month-old pit mix is here for three weeks to work on all the important foundation skills that help young dogs thrive. During his stay, we’ll be focusing on basic obedience, impulse control, appropriate play, and polite leash walking so Scout can better navigate the world with confidence and calm.

Scout is right in that teenage phase where enthusiasm is high and self-control is still loading. Our goal is to give him clear expectations, structure, and productive outlets for his energy while reinforcing the behaviors we want to see more of.

We’re excited to watch Scout grow over the next three weeks and can’t wait to share his progress along the way! 🐶✨

Welcome, Deacon 💙🐾

This handsome Boston Terrier is joining us for 4 weeks to work on some very important life skills. During his time here, we’ll be focusing on building impulse control, addressing resource guarding, and teaching safe, appropriate ways to interact with people.

Deacon isn’t “bad” or “stubborn” — he’s a dog who needs clear communication, structure, and help learning better coping skills. Our goal is to replace big feelings and fast reactions with calm behaviors, confidence, and trust.

We’re excited to help Deacon feel more successful and comfortable in his world, and to give his humans the tools they need to support him long-term. Stay tuned for progress updates as we get to work 💪🐶

Rosie’s day camp field trip today took us to !🧡

Big store. Big sounds. Big distractions. And Rosie showed up ready to work.

We focused on loose leash walking through busy aisles, staying connected around carts, people, and unexpected noises, and following simple commands even when the environment was a lot. This kind of real-world practice is where skills really start to stick.

Field trips like this help dogs learn how to regulate themselves, build confidence, and understand that the same rules apply everywhere, not just in the training space. Rosie is learning that calm, engaged behavior gets her access to fun places and new experiences.

Proud of this girl and the progress she’s making! 💪🐾

Treadmill work isn’t about running dogs into the ground or using it as a quick fix. It is not a replacement for walks, enrichment, or real training, and it is never about forcing a dog to just deal with it.

This is Rosie, one of my day camp dogs, learning the treadmill for the first time. New skills are often a little messy, and that is normal. When introduced correctly, treadmill work helps dogs build body awareness, confidence, coordination, and focus through structured, intentional movement.

It is also a great option when the weather is less than ideal. Extreme cold, heat, ice, or nonstop rain can make outdoor work unsafe, and the treadmill allows dogs to still get quality movement without cutting corners.

Short sessions. Clear criteria. Zero pressure.
The goal is not exhaustion. It is confidence and understanding.

Dexter’s very first intro to leash walking manners 🐾

Today we focused on learning what leash pressure means and how to turn that pressure off by choosing to stay engaged with the handler.
Does the video look a little chaotic? Yes.
Is training a puppy sometimes chaotic? Also yes.

But here’s the win ⬇️
By the end of the session, Dexter was noticeably less distracted and started offering engagement on his own. That’s exactly what we want to see during early puppy leash training.

Progress doesn’t always look clean or polished. Sometimes it looks messy, wiggly, and very puppy—but real learning is still happening.

👉 Follow along to watch Dexter continue to build leash skills, focus, and confidence during his board and train program.

✨ Welcome Dexter! ✨

This handsome 14-week-old Vizsla is here for his 3-week Board & Train program, and we are so excited to have him join the pack! 🧡

Over the next few weeks, Dexter will be working on essential puppy foundation skills that set him up for long-term success, including:
• Basic obedience training
• Leash manners
• Impulse control
• Overall good puppy manners and structure

Early training is key, especially for intelligent, high-energy breeds like Vizslas. Our goal during this puppy board and train is to build clear communication, confidence, and boundaries that will help Dexter navigate puppyhood and beyond. He’s already proving to be smart, engaged, and ready to learn, and we’re excited to see his progress over the next three weeks.

👉 Thinking about a board and train program for your puppy? Now is the perfect time to start building strong foundations. Send us a message or head to our website to schedule a phone evaluation and learn more about our training programs.

Rosie’s first day of Day Camp and she absolutely crushed it 🐾

This morning she joined Dice for a structured play group, practicing polite dog skills and learning how to settle and share space without getting overwhelmed. This afternoon, which is what you’re seeing here, we headed out for a short sniffy hike for mental enrichment while reinforcing recalls and off leash heeling in a real world environment.

When we got home, we wrapped up with a focused training session working on leash manners and the place command to build better impulse control and calm behaviors in the house.

This is what structured dog day camp and private training looks like in Dayton, Ohio. We use real life experiences to build reliable obedience, confidence, and better behavior at home and in public.

Strong foundations make confident dogs.

I’m not interested in rushing behaviors or skipping steps. I want dogs who understand their job, enjoy the work, and feel good doing it.

A clean, confident hold takes patience, clear communication, and trust, and those pieces carry over into everything we do, whether that’s obedience, rally, or everyday life skills.

Thoughtful, balanced training builds dogs who want to try, want to work, and want to be part of the team.
From my pack to yours. 💚
