Sunday plans? How about a little shopping and a lot of adorable dogs?

Stop by Dayton Humane & Co this Sunday, September 6 from 12 to 3 p.m. for a special adoption event! We’ll have adoptable dogs hanging out and hoping to meet the people they’ve been waiting for. 💛

🐾 Cooper: 3-year-old male Beagle mix
🐾 Honey: 3-year-old female Beagle mix

Looking for a new best friend? Come meet some adorable adoptables this Saturday!

Join us Saturday, September 5 from 12 to 3 p.m. at Pet Supplies Plus Beavercreek, 3201 Dayton Xenia Rd., for an adoption event! 💛

We’ll have several animals joining us who are ready to meet potential forever families, including:

🐶 Molly: 3-year-old female Chihuahua
🐶 Polly: 2-year-old female Chihuahua
🐶 Mabelline: 3-year-old female pittie
🐶 Boston: 5-month-old male pittie
🐾 Plus more adoptable friends!

🐾 48 DOGS NEED YOU. 🐾

You can be the reason their lives look different from this moment forward.

Today, 48 dogs were rescued from a deplorable hoarding situation in Moraine. They were living surrounded by trash, debris and f***s, with some confined to filthy crates and dogs stacked two high.
Now they're safe—but they need somewhere to go.

With 48 dogs entering our care at once, we urgently need foster families for the adult dogs. These mixed-breed dogs are all 40 pounds or less, and what they need most is simple: a clean bed, a quiet place, fresh air, regular meals and someone willing to give them time to heal.

You can give them that. ❤️

📢 Shelter Update: We will be closed to the public today, Friday, September 4.

Scheduled appointments will still take place as planned, and our Dayton Humane Veterinary Hospital will also remain open during its normal business hours.

Our Adoption Center will reopen tomorrow, Saturday, September 5, at noon. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

The backpacks are packed, the pencils are sharpened and a brand-new school year is underway—which means it’s the perfect time to sign your child up for Book Buddies! ❤️

Book Buddies is a special, award-winning program at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton that gives children the opportunity to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to animals in our shelter.

And trust us… our pets are the BEST listeners. They never interrupt, never say “that’s not how you pronounce it” and they’re always happy to hear another story!

📖 How does Book Buddies work?

Children are matched with a shelter animal and spend time reading to them in a calm, comfortable setting. As your child reads, they’re building valuable skills while helping an animal feel safe, relaxed and connected.

It’s a simple activity with a BIG impact.

✨ For kids:
• Builds reading confidence and fluency
• Encourages a love of reading
• Provides a non-judgmental audience
• Helps children practice speaking aloud
• Creates a meaningful connection with animals

🐾 For shelter pets:
• Provides enrichment and mental stimulation
• Helps reduce stress and anxiety
• Gives animals positive one-on-one attention
• Helps them become more comfortable around new people
• Makes their time at the shelter a little brighter
