HSGD family we need your help! One of our wonderful dogs, a small black female lab mix named Whisper, was out on a Doggy Day Out adventure today with a volunteer. She got away from them at Hills and Dales Metropark and our team has been out there for hours trying to find her. She is about 22 pounds in size and is microchipped. She is wearing a red collar and it is attached to a red leash. If anyone sees her please call us at 937-268-7387.

🐱🐾 Found Newborn Kittens? Here's What You Should Know 🐾🐱

This time of year, we're seeing kittens everywhere. While your first instinct may be to scoop them up and bring them to safety, the best thing you can do is pause and assess the situation first.

Many mother cats leave their kittens for short periods of time while they search for food. If the kittens look healthy, are warm, and aren't crying constantly, there's a good chance mom is nearby and still caring for them.

Before intervening, try watching from a distance for several hours. Staying too close can actually keep mom from returning to her babies.

If the kittens are injured, sick, cold, in immediate danger, or mom doesn't come back after several hours, they may need help. If you bring them inside, make sure they're warm before attempting to feed them. And remember, cow's milk is not safe for kittens!

Not sure what you're looking at or what the next step should be? Reach out to your local shelter or veterinarian. They can help you determine whether the kittens need assistance, can provide helpful resources, and even talk through options like TNR or possible placement if needed.

During the height of kitten season, sometimes the most helpful thing we can do is give mom the chance to do her job. A little patience can make all the difference for a kitten family.

Meet Mocha & Cocoa ☕🍫

These two are sisters through and through, and they act like it in every way. Mocha is the curious, confident one, first to explore anything new. Cocoa prefers to take her time, watch, and decide when she’s ready to join in.

They truly adore each other. You’ll often find them curled up together, grooming, or quietly relaxing like nothing in the world could bother them.

But like any sisters, they do have their moments. When their space feels too small, they can get a little annoyed with each other (nothing serious), just two strong personalities needing a bit of breathing room. With a larger setup, that tension disappears and they’re right back to snuggles and shared snack time.

Because of their bond, Mocha & Cocoa are not being separated and should be adopted together!

What they’re looking for is simple: space to roam, enrichment to keep life interesting, and someone who understands that love can look like cuddles… and also like dramatically choosing opposite corners of the room for no reason.

In return, you get the full experience: zoomies, toy tosses, binkies, and those quiet little moments where they find their way back to each other like nothing happened. 🐇✨

☀️ Dog Days of Summer: Cassius ☀️
Cassius may be 7 years old, but once he knows you, his goofy puppy side still shines bright.

This handsome Boxer mix is potty trained, great with children, and loves nothing more than spending time with his people. While he can be a little shy when meeting new faces, patience reveals an affectionate, loyal companion who just wants to belong.

He's the kind of dog who is happiest curled up beside you after a long day.
Cassius is hoping this summer brings him the loving family he's been waiting for.

Looking to make a difference this summer? We're in need of caring families to foster animals in need! If you'd love the companionship of a pet but can't make a long-term commitment, our Foster Program is the perfect way to help.

Fostering does more than provide a temporary home—it gives animals a chance to relax, build confidence, and improve their mental well-being outside of the shelter environment. Whether you're helping a playful kitten, a shy dog, or a pet recovering from surgery, your time and love can make a life-changing impact.

Learn more and join our Foster Roster today at hsdayton.org/foster.
