Meet Mr. Bigglesworth, our Pet of the Week!
Like his on-screen namesake, Mr. Bigglesworth is quite the STAR! His personality is huge and he always makes his preferences known.
Mr. Bigglesworth was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Did you know cats and dogs can be diabetic? While obesity can contribute to the development of diabetes in pets, weight loss typically does not resolve diabetes like it can in humans. Changes in diet can help to control blood sugar levels, but again, do not generally "fix" diabetes.
Cats have oral treatment options available in some cases. They have to be otherwise healthy upon diagnosis to be treated with oral medication. Any other concurrent health issues, or if the oral medications do not work adequately for your kitty, and injectable insulin becomes a necessity for successful management of diabetes.

Say HELLO to Lucky! Lucky is our Pet of the Week! He was recently neutered (don't tell him what that means!).
Lucky had a condition called cryptorchidism. This means that neither of his testicles were descended.
Did you know that testicles and ovaries develop in the same location in an embryo? In males, the testicles then travel through the abdominal cavity, through channels in the abdominal muscles, and under the skin until they reach the sc***um. They can get lost or stuck along the way which prevents them from reaching their final destination. Pets with cryptorchidism are at a much higher risk for developing testicular cancer. Thankfully, Dr. Mazzei is experienced at finding hidden testicles using a laprascope. This means Lucky was truly lucky! He only had to have tiny incisions to be protected from testicular cancer!
Female dogs who have not yet had a heat cycle, can be spayed laproscopically as well. This results in substantially less pain than a traditional ovariohysterectomy.
Please give us a call if you are interested in a laproscopic alteration for your precious fur baby.
