The round pen is a great place to teach a horse about manners and respect. This young horse has a hard time respecting space on the ground and gets very reactive. These pictures were taken about 30 minutes apart after a session in the round pen where he is learning to relax and respect pressure. I LOVE to see a horses way of going develop.

Regarless of the discipline you are riding, the goal is to have a relaxed balanced horse who is soft and ready for the job ahead. I am enjoying how intentional you have to be as a rider to train such different disciplines and horses… But a good foundation creates an enjoyable partner either way!

The way a horse develops muscularly can be a telling sign of if they are properly engaging their bodies. Leo is learning to sit and balance in self carriage excellently. Strong and beefy looks good on him!

Now that some of the new horses are started, we get to set up ideal pairs! These two are figuring out how to use their bodies well while staying in stride.
It’s such a fun challenge to figure out how to support both individuals as they need while teaching them to work together.
