Dear Valued Clients,

I have been given a great opportunity with Zoomin Groomin - Greater Dayton, OH and after much thought, I’ve made the difficult decision to close Pooch Pawlor.

This has truly been an emotional decision because this business—and all of you—have meant so much to me. I’m incredibly grateful for the trust you placed in me to care for your dogs. Building relationships with you and your pets has been the most rewarding part of this journey.

Our final day of operations will be June 27th, 2026.

All appointments on the books until then will be fulfilled. We are working our best to make sure any clients who would like to go mobile with me are booked first. If this is something that interest you, please fill out their intake form and we will get in touch about scheduling. Please put Pooch Pawlor as the referral so we can ensure you're booked with me.

If you are unable to come with me, I’m also happy to recommend other trusted groomers in the area to help make this transition as smooth as possible.

Thank you again for your loyalty, support, and for allowing me to be a part of your pets’ lives. It has meant more than words can express. ❤️

Here at Pooch Pawlor, we thank you for keeping your dogs up to date on their vaccines. However, just like us, they are sore for 24-48 hours after they have them done. We understand how convenient it is to have all of your dogs appointments done in the same day or week, however we will be reschedule your dogs if they have had vaccines within 48 hours of their appointment.

Sometimes this is what Comfort Grooming looks like. This old lady has a lot of difficulty standing and staying standing. We can either help keep her standing to do her brush out, face and feet groom or let her lay here on the ground with support. Both ways are physically demanding on our bodies, but one way is more comfortable for the dog.

Our old mixer was on it's last leg here recently after thousands of baths over the last 3 years. Thank you Cheryl Stanczyk for this wonderful gift.

Here at Pooch Pawlor we mix your dogs bathing products allowing what we purchase to go further. All of our products have a dilution ratio. Through our education over the years with Iv San Bernard USA, we have learned that we don't need to use as much product on the dogs and that by using the Frothing method, we can make all of our products go further.

As always, we close when the weather is bad. Schools are closed and we are under a Level 1 Snow Emergency. No dog or person is worth an appointment, they can all be rescheduled. This will allow time for streets and our parking lot to be cleared without vehicles in the way. Enjoy the day. Stay warm. Allow those puppies to play outside in the snow!

Please always be patient with us. Especially during the holidays. This career is physically and mentally demanding and draining. We love it, but.....If we get your dog done early one time and not the next, be happy your dog done was early not, "Well my dog was done early last time." We work with live and moving animals and constant interruptions to the day with little breaks and often not eating. We are here for 9+ hours a day 5-6 days a week. Please be patient with us.

Anxiety trigger for almost all groomers that we never talk about.🐾
The dreaded question...how long will this take.
45 minutes to 4 plus hours 🤷‍♀️
Scenario
You have a 10 am for Fluff Butt cutie pants.
You come in we talk and if all goes well you pick up Fluff Butt around 12:30... in the mean time... we wash fluff butt and get him drying and the noon appointment shows up at 11:15 so you stop to check them in and chat. You come back to and Fluff Butt has p*ed a river and and is covered in p**p and p*e. So the new dog is put up and Fluff butt is pulled out for another bath. You start bathing and you are covered in soap and someone comes in.
The person to pick up their dog that was ready at 10:30 is here.
You chit chat check them out but you can't start your noon because you have to start over on Fluff.
You are almost done with fluff and the owners call to see why it is taking so long.
All your concentration is on Fluff now.
Your Noon is still not started and you have another dog coming in soon.
You are full of anxiety and rushing which will cause you to send out a bad groom.
Then the phone rings....
Lastly in walks in a dog that isn't matted according to the owner he gets there and welp matted and very territorial of personal space so you have to spend 10 minutes coaxing him out a kennel.
See how this can snowball quick.

I promise we never are trying to keep your dog longer than they should be here.
Nothing happened today but it does every week.
I have heard lots of complaints about my last groomer kept them all day.
Even in the best run grooming salon it happens.
The variables are great.
I promise I will let you know if we have an issue and when they are ready :)

Fleas, fleas, fleas!!! They are terrible this year. If your dog has fleas, please let us know beforehand. I know we are trying everything we can to kill them off, but unfortunately they are becoming immune to over the counter products. We have seen a major increase over the last few weeks here at the shop. Cooler weather gets these guys to jump on your warm dog and come inside.

While your dog is here receiving their flea bath, you need to treat your house and yard. Additionally call your vet and get medication for them. Even one month of medication is better than not at all.

Any and all bedding needs to go into the dryer first on high heat, followed by a hot water wash and, high heat dry again. This is for anything the dog lays on.

Furniture and carpet is best treated with an OTC spray or food grade diatomatous earth (DE). Vacuum everything, apply OTC spray or DE, let sit for 24 hours, vacuum again. Do this continually for 1 week. Clean out your vacuum after each use, put it in a bag and outside in the container. If using DE, work it into the fabric. Other options are "flea bombs" but they do require more intensive cleaning afterwards as the pesticide is aerosoled and will get on every single surface. This is what we have to do at the shop. It requires us to fully deep clean 1,600 sqft, which is 4+ hours of work.

For the yard, you can use DE here too. However it can't be done when it's going to rain. Yard sprays are also an option, but have the same issue.

If you notice your dog is having a lot of fleas and you can't get in, dawn dish soap will kill the fleas that are on them. It will not prevent them and it will dry the dogs skin out. You need to follow up with a conditioner. You cannot apply any topical treatment to your dog 48-72 hours after this as it removes all oils from the skin.

Here's some more info about fleas.
