The Cane Corso was historically bred to be a guardian of its family and property. That natural protective instinct, when paired with a stable temperament, proper socialization, and responsible training, is what makes this breed so remarkable.

At Savage Cane Corso, we don’t simply breed two beautiful dogs together and hope for the best.

🐾 GENETICS MATTER. We strive to preserve the authentic, rustic Italian Cane Corso, selecting dogs for sound structure, stable nerves, and the qualities that made this breed such a respected family guardian.

🐾 EARLY SOCIALIZATION MATTERS. From a young age, our puppies are introduced to different sounds, environments, experiences, and appropriate human interaction to help build confidence and adaptability.

🐾 TEMPERAMENT TESTING MATTERS. We evaluate our puppies to better understand their individual personalities and help match them with families whose lifestyles are suited to their needs.

🐾 TRAINING MATTERS. A genetically sound temperament provides the foundation, but responsible ownership, continued socialization, clear boundaries, and consistent training help shape the adult dog.

We want our Cane Corsos to have the confidence to stand their ground when necessary, but also the stability and discernment to remain calm, patient, and gentle in everyday family life.

And while we absolutely love seeing our dogs with children, we always emphasize that young children and dogs should be actively supervised together. Even the most loving, well-trained dog deserves respectful handling and appropriate boundaries.

Please join us in giving a BIG Savage Cane Corso welcome to the Sharpe family, who have officially opened their hearts and home to our beautiful girl, Davina! 🐾

Making the decision to rehome Davina was not something we took lightly. We had several hundred interested candidates, but our priority was never simply finding her a new home. It was finding her the RIGHT forever home, where she would be loved, cherished, and treated as part of the family.

And we truly believe we found exactly that with the Sharpe family! ❤️

With a beautiful 10-acre farm to explore and young children to grow up alongside, Davina has an exciting new chapter ahead of her! Plenty of room to run, adventures to enjoy, and little ones to keep her busy!

At Savage Cane Corso, our responsibility to our dogs doesn’t end when they leave our property. Their happiness, well-being, and future will always matter to us.

🐾 A Boy and His Dog — A Bond That Starts Young! ❤️🐾

There is something truly special about watching a child grow up with a Cane Corso by their side! ❤️

Meet our 7-month-old grandson, Dawson, and his four-legged buddy, Augustus McCrae “Gus,” our 16-month-old Rip ❌ Mystic Pandora production!

At Savage Cane Corso, LLC, we believe a Cane Corso should be more than just an impressive-looking dog. They should possess the temperament, loyalty, confidence, and stability to become a trusted member of the family.

The Cane Corso is often misunderstood because of its powerful appearance and natural protective instincts. But those who truly know this magnificent breed understand that beneath that muscular exterior can be an incredibly affectionate, devoted, and gentle family companion.

As we get ready for our 3rd annual protection training seminar coming up in a couple of weeks, I thought I would share a throw back video of training that we had utilized for building up our Savage crew. Rip has been working in protection training since he was 8 months old. I love this big boy!

We are not just breeders but also animal advocates and have been for years out here in Liberty County. It appears that taxes are to be raised for jail improvements. This is not what we asked for! We asked for animal control officers and a rescue shelter. This appeal has been going on for years. If you watch the video you will see the interview I had with KPRC 2 News in regards to our animal problem here in our county and how the elected officials think this is a joke. Do better Liberty County!

🐾 WIDE, OPEN NOSTRILS MATTER — FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION

One of the differences we frequently see between the traditional, rustic Cane Corso and some of the more modern Americanized examples of the breed is in the construction of the head and muzzle.

The Cane Corso was NOT bred to look like a Boxer.

The FCI standard calls for a large nose with ample, well-open nostrils and a muzzle that is strong, square and noticeably shorter than the skull — but that does NOT mean an excessively shortened, pinched muzzle.

Why does this matter?

Because structure has a purpose.

A broad, substantial muzzle combined with large, open nostrils supports unrestricted airflow and reflects the functional Molosser type the Cane Corso was developed to be.

When breeding continually selects for an excessively short, Boxer-like muzzle, we can begin seeing a very different phenotype:

• Narrow or pinched nostrils
• Excessive shortening of the muzzle
• An exaggerated stop
• A more brachycephalic appearance
• Loss of the traditional rustic Corso head

Nostril size and muzzle construction are inherited through multiple genes affecting craniofacial development, which is why breeders have to look at the entire phenotype — and generations behind it — rather than one feature alone.

At Savage Cane Corso, we intentionally breed toward the traditional rustic Italian Cane Corso and the FCI standard. We aren’t trying to reinvent the breed or make our dogs look like another Molosser.

The Cane Corso already had an identity.

Our goal is to preserve it.

Big, open nostrils.
A strong, broad muzzle.
Correct proportions.
Functional structure.
Traditional Italian type.

A Cane Corso should look like a Cane Corso — not a Boxer.

Preservation over modification. Function over exaggeration.
