Did you know that a baby llama is called a cria? Along with foals (baby horses and donkeys), we also care for crias in our large animal Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Last year we were visited by Dean Stetter and had an opportunity to share one of our NICU patients with him. The ‘Minute with Mark’ shows how we care for our sick babies in NICU so they have the best change at heading home strong and healthy. Today is the day! While this season is mostly finished for new foals, we are already thinking about the little ones to come next year. Newborn foals and crias are the most fragile patients we see at the UC Davis VMTH and can change from being full of life to very sick in a very short time. Our NICU is equipped to handle the sickest of the sick, with around-the-clock care from doctors and technicians. However, like most everything, costs can add up quickly, and we provide financial assistance to many of our patients. Please join us in raising funds to support these small creatures who deserve the chance at a full and healthy life - any shares on social media and any donation amount is so helpful!

Our very own Dr Rana Bozorgmanesh was an invited speaker at the international ABRAVEQ equine conference in Brazil! She wowed the audience with her expertise, sharing her knowledge of the critical broodmare and neonate, making UC Davis proud.

Passing the General Exam is a major milestone on the path to ACVIM board certification and is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence in large animal internal medicine.
