OKP is a non-profit, foster-based rescue (we do NOT have a designated facility for kittens) run by vet students. Orphaned and abandoned neonatal kittens are taken in from the community and given a complete physical exam by the project coordinators who are current veterinary students. These kittens are then fostered by a community of volunteers who bottle-raise them in their own homes. The kittens

are weaned, vaccinated, FeLV tested, spayed or neutered, and dewormed vaccinations before they are put up for adoption, usually by 10-12 weeks of age. Other Useful Links: https://linktr.ee/orphankittenproject

It truly takes a village to rescue, raise, and rehome orphaned kittens. Behind every adoption is a dedicated team, amazing fosters, and the incredible support of Purina . For years, they have been right by our side, fueling our little fighters with the high-quality nutrition they need to grow big, strong, and healthy. Their consistent support and premium diets have truly been a lifeline for the countless orphaned kittens that pass through our doors.

To put that into perspective, we’ve already had 320 kittens in our care so far this year alone! Providing top-tier nutrition for that many hungry mouths is a massive undertaking, and we couldn’t do this lifesaving work without a dedicated partner in our corner.

We are incredibly grateful for Purina Pro Plan’s continued partnership and dedication to saving rescue lives year after year. Thank you for helping us turn vulnerable kittens into thriving, happy cats! 🐾❤️

✨Feline Feature: Tilly✨

Meet Tilly!

Tilly is a tiny little sweetheart with the cutest head tilt that makes her look extra curious about the world around her! Her adorable tilt is simply part of her charm and does not affect her health at all. She loves being part of whatever is going on, whether that means chasing toys, following around her foster siblings, or meeting new people! After she’s done zooming around and exploring, her favorite thing is curling up in your arms for the coziest nap imaginable. She always wants to be included and will happily keep you company wherever you go.

Tilly has met a few cats and has done really well with slow, proper introductions. She would likely do great in a home with another friendly cat. She could also do well with a calm, respectful dog as long as introductions are done slowly and thoughtfully.

✨Feline Feature: Meet Scout! ✨

Scout is a lively, affectionate cat with a personality as bold as his name. ⚡️ This energetic guy loves to zoom, play, and keep his siblings on their toes — if you’re looking for a cat with charisma and energy to spare, Scout is your guy. 🤗 While he may take a moment to warm up to new faces, once he decides you’re alright, he’s all in — expect headbutts, cuddles, and a whole lot of purring. He loves being held and will happily soak up your affection… just don’t be surprised if he wiggles free when he’s ready for his next adventure.

✨Feline Features: Thin Mint and Do-si-do✨

Meet the duo Thin Mint and Do-si-do!! Thin Mint is a spunky kitten who loves to wrestle with her sister Do-Si-Do and play with her favorite feather toy. She lights up when you walk in the room and will, quite vocally, ask for your attention. This tuxedo is ready to hang all over you and be your second shadow. She thrives under attention otherwise she’s content to run around with her sister by her side! 🌱🍪

Do-si-do, the little tabby, on the other hand, is her sister’s calmer counterpart but no less of a fun time! She’s an easygoing kitten who is very confident and loves to explore. When she’s not exploring you can catch her snuggling with her sister or at your heel as she watches you go about your day. 🥜🤎

We would love for Thin Mint and Do-si-do to be adopted as a pair! They would be a perfect pair for any households with cats, dogs, and kids. 💕

Meet Wednesday! 🐾This beautiful fluffy brown tabby is a sweet girl who loves being the center of attention. With her soft coat and bright personality, she brings the perfect balance of playful energy and affectionate charm. 🤎 Wednesday is always ready for fun, especially when wand toys are involved, and she’ll happily show off her playful side during an energetic play session.

After playtime, she transforms into the ultimate cuddle companion, curling up comfortably in your lap for snuggles and relaxation. 🥰 Wednesday has a gentle, social nature that makes her a wonderful fit for many different homes. She gets along well with other cats, does great with children, and may even adjust well to a calm, friendly dog with proper introductions.

✨Feline Feature: Piper✨

Meet Piper! 💕 This little lady is looking for a new best friend and a household full of sunny spots and comfy pillows!

Piper is the cutest grey and white tuxedo kitten, with gorgeous green eyes and a perfect pink nose. Piper has tons of personality packed into a petite frame and will absolutely become queen of your household! She loves carrying toys around the house and stashing them in bed, sunbathing and looking out the window, and quietly trailing you through your daily routine. Piper’s purr is something special (surprisingly loud and very chirpy). She loves chin scratches and the occasional belly rub, and she’s the kind of kitten that comes running for snuggles at bedtime. 🧸

Piper came into rescue with an upper respiratory infection, but has recovered well and is now her fluffiest, happiest self. She has loved playing and cuddling with other cats in her foster home and would likely do well in a home with another kitten or young cat, given slow, proper introductions. Piper is shy at first and cautious around loud noises or fast movement, so she would do better in a home without dogs or young children. Piper eats well and loves treats, has fantastic litter box manners, and is an absolute lady. She’s looking for someone who’ll take their time earning her trust and loyalty, and in exchange she’ll fill your world with love and so much cuteness!

✨Feline Feature: Lune & Totoro✨

Have you ever seen a brotherly bond this strong? Lune & Totoro would say there’s no such thing as too much love 💛🐾 These two are truly inseparable! They are partners in crime, cuddle buddies, and late-night zoomie champions. Whether they’re plotting their next great escape (screen windows beware 😅) or curled up with their foster mom, it’s always side by side, paw in paw. They’re two peas in a pod, and we are hoping to find them a forever home together.

Despite their Olympic-level cuteness, these boys haven’t had a single inquiry in 6 months 💔 And while they adore their foster home, they deserve a family of their very own. Lune & Totoro are FeLV+ (Feline Leukemia Virus), which means they have a weakened immune system and may not have as long of a lifespan. But right now? They are healthy, happy, and full of love.

This also means: -They can live safely with other FeLV+ cats -They cannot spread the virus to humans or dogs -They’ll give you so much love in the time they have

They’re perfect for someone who wants a deeply meaningful bond. Double the whiskers, double the snuggles, and double the love. Meet Cheesecake 🧀💗, the fluffiest, floppiest, most fabulous feline you’ll ever meet. When he’s not snuggled up with you, purring, or sitting on your shoulder, he’s always ready to hunt a string, a ball, or a crumpled paper! His name suits him as he’s sweet as cake!

Cheesecake loves everyone, including children, dogs, cats, and other creatures who walk along his path. He has the most curious green sparkly eyes, and the softest grey and white fur that you may get confused with butter. Cheesecake will bring infinite joy and warmth to your home, and he’ll be sure you’re never alone! 🥰

We’re honored to share a special post celebrating the life of Merry Newman Hart 🤍 In lieu of flowers, her family kindly asks that donations be made to the UC Davis Orphan Kitten Project in her memory. The link to donate can be found in our bio via Linktree. 💐

Merry Newman Hart was born and raised in New York City, primarily on Staten Island. After graduating as valedictorian of Curtis High School in 1958, she went on to earn both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cornell University, where she met and married Dr. Benjamin Hart. The couple moved to Davis in 1964 when Ben accepted a position at UC Davis. Merry began her career in education in 1965 and dedicated over 40 years to the Davis Joint Unified School District, retiring in 2006. As a teacher and school counselor, she was known for her kindness, compassion, and lasting impact on her students’ lives. We’re grateful to honor her memory in this way 🤍
