🐾A lost dog needs a way home🏠
An ID tag could make all the difference in getting your dog safely back to you!🐶
✅What to put on your dog’s ID tag:
📲Primary cell phone number- use a current phone number with a voicemail set up so someone can reach you quickly.
👤Owners name- use your name or initials to help verify ownership without sharing too much personal information.
☎️Secondary phone number- include a second phone number for a trusted family member or friend in case you can’t be reached.
🩺Medical/Behavioral alerts- short phrases like “Needs Meds” or “Give Space” can help someone handle your dog safely and understand their needs.
🚫Avoid putting this on a dog’s ID tag:
🐶Your dog’s name- keeping their name private can make it harder for stranger or potential thieves to gain their trust or falsely claim ownership.
🔢Microchip number- leave off the long numbers and write “MICROCHIPPED” instead to remind the finder, ACO, or vet to scan for a chip.
🏠Full street address- protect your privacy by excluding your exact home address.
No ID tag? A quick tip to help!
Using a permanent marker, you can write your phone number directly on your dog’s collar. Be sure the number is current and visible! Check this regularly, as it can fade over time⏳
❤️A little preparation can make a HUGE difference! Even the most loved and well-behaved dogs can slip out the door, escape the yard, or get spooked then run off. A current ID tag gives them a better chance of finding their way home🏠
