Did you know maintaining a healthy weight can help support your pet’s mobility, comfort, and overall wellness? 🐶🐱

Extra weight can put added stress on joints and increase the risk of certain health conditions. That’s why paying attention to your pet’s body condition is an important part of preventative care!

👀 Here are a few things to look for:
🐾 Can you feel their ribs under a thin layer of fat? Make a fist with one hand, and run your fingers over it. It’ll feel similar to that!
🐾 Do they have a visible waist when viewed from above? Some stockier breeds like Frenchies, Pugs, Bassett Hounds, and Newfoundlands may not have a visible waist — and that’s okay!
🐾 Is there an upward tuck to their belly when viewed from the side? Some breeds like the Shih Tzu, mini and standard Schnauzers, and English bulldogs may not have a noticeable tuck.

Every pet is different, and factors like breed, age, muscle mass, and medical history all play a role in determining their ideal weight.

💚 At Whole Pet Davidson, we believe every pet deserves a wellness plan tailored to their individual needs! Our team can help assess your pet’s weight, discuss nutrition and activity, and create a plan to support their long-term health.

📅 Not sure if your pet is at a healthy weight? Schedule a wellness visit, and let’s work together to help them feel their best!

When the acupuncture is so good you’ve gotta take a nap 😴

Jase loves coming to see Dr. Comeaux for his electro-acupuncture! He’s always so relaxed during his sessions. He loves being able to catch up on his beauty sleep 🛌

✨DOCTOR SPOTLIGHT✨

Meet Dr. Heather Linen!

Her passion for veterinary medicine goes beyond simply treating disease 🩺✨

Dr. Linen became a veterinarian to be a voice for the voiceless—advocating for the patients who can’t tell us where it hurts, what they need, or how they feel. She believes every patient deserves someone who will listen, look closer, and speak up for them ❤️🐾

Her veterinary interests include surgery, dentistry, and those challenging internal medicine cases where putting all the pieces of the puzzle together can make all the difference! 🧩🩺

When she’s not caring for patients, you can find Dr. Linen camping with her son and Scouts, singing in a choir, or curled up with a good book 🏕️🎶📚

Want to meet Dr. Linen? Give us a call or schedule an appointment online!

🦠🐾 Today is World Rabies Day!

Rabies may seem like something that happens “somewhere else,” but it remains a serious and preventable disease—and wildlife can bring that risk much closer to home.

⁉️ Did you know as of June 2026, we’ve had FOUR confirmed cases of rabies in Mecklenburg county?!

Dogs and cats can be exposed through contact with infected wildlife, including bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes. And even pets who spend most of their time indoors aren’t completely risk-free.

💉 The good news? Rabies is preventable. Keeping your pet’s rabies vaccination current is one of the simplest and most important ways you can protect them, your family, and your community.

At Whole Pet Davidson, we understand wanting to keep your pets protected without overloading their immune system. For dogs, we carry thimerosal-free killed-virus rabies vaccine. For cats, we carry purevax non-adjuvanted rabies vaccines.

Want to make sure your pet is protected? Have questions about our rabies vaccines?

🐾💚 September is Animal Pain Awareness Month 💚🐾

Pain doesn’t always look the way we expect it to in our pets. Sometimes it’s a limp or difficulty getting up. Other times, it’s a change in behavior, less interest in activities they love, or simply not quite acting like themselves.

That’s why we believe pain management should be individualized. 🩺✨

As an integrative veterinary practice, we have many tools in our toolbox to help our patients feel their best. One of those tools is acupuncture, which can be incorporated into a comprehensive pain-management plan for a variety of conditions.

💚 Acupuncture
💚 Conventional medications
💚 Nutritional support
💚 Supplements
💚 And more

Sometimes one tool is helpful. Sometimes it takes several working together. Our goal is to find the right combination for each individual patient.

Because managing pain isn’t just about helping pets hurt less—it’s about helping them move better, feel better, and get back to doing the things they love. 🐶🐱🐾

More tools. More options. More ways to help. 💚
