Service dog covers a lot more ground than most people realize. Beyond guiding the blind, they open doors and retrieve dropped items for people with mobility limitations, interrupt panic attacks for handlers with PTSD, and in the case of diabetic alert dogs, use scent alone to pick up on blood sugar changes, sometimes before the person feels anything at all 🐕. Research on exactly how early is still evolving, but the ability itself is well documented. Each dog is trained around the specific needs of the one person they work with.

Oakley is looking very stylish in her protective goggles while receiving red light laser therapy✨🐾

Also known as photobiomodulation, laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate changes at the cellular level.

Laser therapy can be used to help reduce pain and inflammation, improve circulation, support wound healing, and promote the body’s natural healing process. ❤️

You’ve probably seen the red AAHA logo around our hospital… but what does it actually mean? 🐾

For us, it means 46 years of choosing to hold ourselves to a higher standard.

AAHA stands for the American Animal Hospital Association. Unlike human healthcare, veterinary accreditation isn’t required. Hospitals choose to pursue AAHA accreditation, and then have to meet or exceed rigorous standards covering everything from anesthesia, pain management, dentistry, diagnostics, medical records, patient safety, and client communication to team training and hospital operations. These standards are continually updated as veterinary medicine evolves.

Anchor Animal Hospital has been AAHA-accredited since 1980. But accreditation isn’t something we achieve once and put on a shelf. It’s an ongoing commitment to learning, improving, and providing the best care we can for every patient who walks through our doors.

A little comfort goes a long way. 💙

When this 4-year-old Golden Retriever named Chester Blue came to us for the first time after not feeling well, our team was there to help him get back on track. During his visit, he received subcutaneous fluid therapy, and plenty of love and attention from Technician Assistant Nea.

He quickly took a liking to Nea and spent much of his visit trying to climb into her arms for a hug. 🥹🐶 We’re pretty sure he left having made a new best friend!
