Another dog from the Danville, Indiana (Hendricks County) major HOARDING case is officially contained and on the way to a safer future.

These dogs have been through a lot. They’re scared, confused, and they don’t understand that we’re trying to help. They aren’t going to simply walk up and let someone grab them — and that’s okay.

We are incredibly grateful to our animal loving community members who reported sightings, gave these dogs space, and trusted our ALL VOLUNTEER team to respond.

We were able to bring in the equipment, experience, and skills needed to safely contain them.

📍 Case Overview drop 📍

We want to provide an important update regarding the dogs from the horrific hoarding case in Danville, Indiana.

* 11 dogs are in quarantine connected to this case at HCAS
* Some have tested positive for Canine Parvovirus Parvo
* Parvo is a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus in dogs
* Testing occurred at the direction of the Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH)
* BOAH District Veterinarian was on site today

🦠 About Canine Parvovirus Parvo 🦠

* Parvo is a serious viral illness affecting dogs
* It is not transmissible to humans
* It is highly resilient in the environment and can be difficult to eliminate without proper disinfection

⚠️ How It Can Spread Indirectly ⚠️

While humans cannot contract Parvo, they can unintentionally spread it between dogs through contaminated items such as:

* Shoes and clothing
* Hands after handling animals or contaminated surfaces
* Equipment and animal handling tools
* Vehicles used for transport
* Surfaces where infected dogs have been present

🐶 Guidance for Pet Owners 🐶

If you may have had contact with these dogs or the areas where they were found:

* Contact your veterinarian immediately for guidance
* Monitor your dogs for any signs of illness
* Avoid exposing other dogs to potentially contaminated items
* Follow all veterinary recommendations for cleaning and prevention

We want the community to understand something very important:

West Central Indiana Lost Dog Recovery volunteers are experienced. We have volunteered alongside Animal Control in numerous counties.

We have been trapping stray, fearful, and difficult-to-contain dogs for many years. We have also worked extensively in hoarding situations and other complicated cases where dogs are frightened, unsocialized, sick, or living in horrific conditions.

We take EVERY case seriously, but especially cases like this.

Our volunteers understand the importance of biosecurity when working around potentially contagious animals. We take proactive precautions every time we return home from a trapping or rescue operation.

🐾 All trapping equipment is thoroughly sanitized immediately upon returning home.
🐾 PPE is used appropriately and handled carefully.
🐾 Clothing worn during these operations is immediately removed and washed, cleaned, or discarded when necessary.
🐾 We take every reasonable precaution to prevent bringing anything from one location into another.

This isn’t our first difficult case, and we don’t take the responsibility of helping these dogs lightly.

Our volunteers went into this situation because these dogs needed someone willing to step up and help get them safe. Nothing about the conditions these dogs came from was easy.

We will continue to do what we do best:
Contain. Recover. Protect. Repeat.

Robin & Jenn went to work today—pouring rain, lightning, and thunder couldn’t stop them! Nothing was going to stand in the way of getting these two innocent souls safe.

Our volunteers worked alongside the Danville Police Department and Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office to safely get these two innocent souls contained and out of harm’s way.

We are incredibly appreciative of the people who reached out to us directly and allowed us access to their property so we could do what we do best — safely get these dogs contained. Your trust and cooperation made a difference. 🧡

‼️ PSA: What Is Considered “Chasing” a Lost/Stray Dog? ‼️

One of the biggest misconceptions in lost dog recovery is that chasing only means physically running after a dog. In reality, many well-meaning actions are perceived by a lost/stray, frightened, or survival-mode dog as a pursuit and can cause them to flee farther from home, avoid their owners, and become much harder to recover.

➡️ Chasing includes, but is not limited to:

• Walking or driving toward the dog in an attempt to get closer.
• Following the dog on foot, even at a slow pace.
• Calling the dog’s name repeatedly.
• Whistling, clapping, kissing sounds, squeaking toys, or trying to get the dog’s attention.
• Attempting to lure the dog by showing treats, food, a leash, favorite toy, or another pet.
• Reaching toward the dog or attempting to grab them.
• Cornering the dog or cutting off their path of travel.
• Parking and getting out of a vehicle to approach the dog.
• Having multiple people attempt to surround, intercept, or contain the dog.
• Posting real-time sightings on social media that encourage community members to go look for the dog.
• Using bicycles, golf carts, ATVs, or vehicles to follow a dog.
• Continuing to pursue a dog after it has moved away from you.

When a dog is in survival mode, even a beloved owner may be viewed as a threat. The dog’s instinct is no longer focused on being reunited with family—it is focused on SURVIVING.

Every time the dog feels pressured, pursued, or approached, they may expand their travel area, become more nocturnal, avoid feeding stations, and become increasingly difficult to safely contain.

➡️ What should you do instead?

If you spot a lost/stray dog:

1. Do not call out, whistle, or approach.
2. Do not follow the dog.
3. Note the exact location, direction of travel, and time of sighting.
4. Take a photo if it can be done without drawing the dog’s attention.
5. Immediately report the sighting to the owner or recovery team.
6. Leave the area and allow the dog to continue moving without pressure.

Remember: Every time a dog is chased, even unintentionally, the recovery process can be set back days or even weeks. The best thing you can do for a lost/stray dog is to resist the urge to ‘help’ by approaching them and instead become the eyes and ears of the recovery team.

🚨 LOST PET SCAM ALERT 🚨

When your dog or cat goes missing, scammers know you’re scared, desperate, and willing to do anything to bring them home. Unfortunately, they take advantage of that.

Before you send money, gift cards, Zelle, Venmo, Cash App, or share a Google verification code… STOP. VERIFY.

Common scams include:
🐾 “I found your dog, but I need money first.”
🐾 Fake Animal Control or shelter calls.
🐾 Requests for Google verification codes.
🐾 Fake drone search or pet recovery services.
🐾 Photos claiming to be your pet that are stolen from your social media.

💡 Remember:
• Never pay someone just because they sent a photo.
• Never give anyone a Google verification code.
• Contact Animal Control or the shelter directly using their published phone number.
• If something feels off, trust your instincts.

Scammers prey on panic. Don’t let them steal your money while you’re trying to bring your best friend home.

What an incredible success story! 🧡🐾

After more than two months on the run, this stray black dog is finally safe thanks to the dedication, patience, and expertise of our sister all volunteer trapping group, Kherri with On The Run Lost Dog Recovery.

A huge shout-out to Kherri for never giving up on this boy. She invested countless hours tracking sightings, establishing a feeding station, patiently conditioning him to the trap, and ultimately bringing him to safety.

This rescue is also a perfect example of what can happen when an entire community works together. The support from the Fishers community, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, the Fishers Police Department, and the Humane Society for Hamilton County is nothing short of incredible. Everyone shared the same goal—getting this dog safely contained and into a better future.

Kherri, you’re an absolute rockstar. Thank you for everything you do for lost dogs and the people who love them. Congratulations on another amazing save! 🧡 🐾

Dog Trappers are a different breed 🤘

From our sister group of all volunteers primarily serving Marion County, Indiana 🐾💚🐾

Whether they are street dogs surviving day to day in town, or country dogs struggling in more rural and isolated areas, they are all facing the same reality—fear, hunger, exposure, and uncertainty.

These dogs are relying on all of us to work together. Whether you’re a shelter, rescue, volunteer, foster, animal control officer, or a member of the community, every role matters.

By sharing information, supporting one another, and keeping the dogs’ best interests at the center of what we do, we give them the greatest chance at a safe outcome.

Together, we can accomplish so much more—for them 🐾 🧡



Peaceful Souls Animal Rescue and Recovery

Imagine for a moment, being an invisible soul. Also known as: the street dog

I live in constant fear, jumping at every sound. Was that a car door slamming or another gunshot? Was it aimed at me? Are those more sirens? I’m so scared.

People walk past me all the time but never stop. Why would they? I have stopped looking at them or hoping for help. I’m not hurting anybody so they don’t care I’m here. I am man’s best friend, yet I ache from loneliness.

My stomach never stops growling. I sift through trash daily looking for anything, ANYTHING edible. Sometimes I even eat rocks or cardboard just to fill the emptiness.

I’m exhausted. I sleep with one eye open and feel the chill of the night every single night. Rain, sleet, snow, here I am. 90 degrees or 10 degrees I’m still here. I search for places that I can stay invisible that nobody will hurt me but I can stay out of the weather.

I am being eaten alive by fleas, flies, and ticks and no matter what I do I cannot escape the constant miserable itch. Soon I’ll begin losing my hair.

I have no hope left. I will never have a family to love and protect. I will try to keep waiting maybe someday I will be enough for someone to care enough, but it is not looking good.

Peaceful Souls, saving one soul at a time… because all dogs are worth it… 🐾💚🐾

Great news! NORTH SALEM’s cow and calf are both safe, contained, and back home where they belong.
