Junior update! šŸ¾šŸ’™

Weā€™ve been working on those leash manners, and learning how to walk nicely together is a big part of that! Loose-leash walking isnā€™t just about preventing pulling. Itā€™s about teaching our dogs how to move with us, pay attention to their handler, and understand that the leash is a way for us to communicate.

These skills take time, consistency, and practice, especially with puppies who are still learning about the world around them. We want to build good habits now that will carry into adulthood and make everyday walks more enjoyable for everyone!

Every walk is an opportunity to learn!

One of my favorite things about having Clem is getting to experience life with her, both as my service dog and just as my dog.

Being a working dog is about so much more than obedience and task work. Itā€™s also about confidence, neutrality, adaptability, and being able to navigate the world together. And just like any other dog, working dogs need opportunities to decompress, explore, play, and enjoy life outside of their responsibilities.

Weā€™re always working on maintaining her skills, continuing her training, and building on the foundation weā€™ve created together. But I also want her to have a life full of fun, new experiences, and the freedom to just be a dog.

Thereā€™s a balance between having a reliable working partner and making sure the dog behind the work is happy, fulfilled, and thriving. That balance is something I value with Clem, and itā€™s something I believe in when it comes to training dogs in general!

Training isnā€™t just about creating a dog who listens. Itā€™s about helping them become confident, capable, and comfortable navigating the world alongside us!

And of course, making sure they get to enjoy the life theyā€™re working so hard to be a part of. šŸ¶šŸ’—

We had a blast with our latest day-sitting dogs, Koda and Raya! They were just here for fun day while their mom was busy, no training required! Raya got a nice brush and observed th other dogs while playing, to make sure it didnt get too crazy of course. While Koda played with his new friend Heartly for most of the time! Everyone got plenty of treats and cuddles as well, and eventually all four dogs were totally pooped!! šŸ•šŸ’ž

Doggy Day Out with Gordon! šŸ¶ā¤ļø

We got the pleasure of picking up Gordon, a handsome 9-year-old Shepherd mix, for a little adventure! We started with a trip to a local pet store to get some yummy snacks! Some one couldnā€™t wait until we got to the carā˜ŗļø Next up was a cozy Sniffspot, where he got to explore, sniff, and enjoy some freedom in a safe, private space.

Afterward, we went on a nice walk, walking so politely on his leash, we practiced saying hello to some humans along the way, and wrapped up our adventure with some yummy chicken because every good outing deserves a little treat! šŸ—

At 9 years old, Gordon deserves all the adventures, love, and special moments we can give him. Senior dogs still have so much life and joy to share, and Iā€™m so happy I got to spend part of my day making some memories with this sweet boy! Miss Lilo was over for her first full groom with us! She was the BEST, and absolutely loved playtime with Heartly and Bastion! Although it was her first full groom with us, it was the second time we have trimmed her nails. One of the most important things for puppies is to expose them to grooming early, and Lilo's parents have done just that! Lilo was a little unsure about her nails the first time, but this time around she handled it like a pro (which we made sure to reward)! Seeing the confidence in dogs grow is incredibly special, and is one of the many reasons why we do what we do! Check back in soon for more of miss Lilo!

Alrighty everyone, we apologize for the delay but we FINALLY have our Michiana pack walk rescheduled!! As long as the weather cooperates, we are looking at October 22nd at 5:30! We are changing locations to the Mishawaka Riverwalk, as there is no fee to enter! We hope to see you all there!!

Juniorā€™s first 4-hour day train is in the books!

Since Junior is only a few months old and still has one more round of puppy vaccinations to go, using a shopping cart is also a great way to introduce him to the world while limiting his contact with public floors! šŸ›’šŸ¾ Socialization doesnā€™t mean he has to meet every person or play with every dog. It means giving him positive experiences with new sights, sounds, people, and environments while teaching him how to stay calm and confident. We can start building those important life skills now, even before heā€™s ready to explore everywhere on his own four paws!

We worked on impulse control, focusing in busy environments, reviewing place, and leash walking with an introduction to proper heel positioning! We took our training out into the real world, including Loweā€™s, where we used everyday distractions as opportunities to practice staying calm, making good choices, and checking in with me. Ending our day with a few hours at home working on those manners with some obedience skills!

Junior worked hard during his first day train, and Iā€™m so proud of the progress heā€™s making! Weā€™re building the foundation for a well-mannered pup who can confidently go places and be successful in different environments.

Youre not seeing double; you've already met Bandit, now meet his brother Rocky! Both are very sweet boys working on building confidence to make life in the home easier. All three of us went for a nice walk in the park, where we practiced settling and forming positive associations with new experiences! Bandit and Rocky both did a wonderful job, especially for Rockys first lesson. Stay tuned for more of these boys!

Is your settle THIS good!?

Miss Lilo is showing off one of the many benefits of our day trains! She is a big window barker and loves to play with other dogs. Today she practiced settling around both! Tethering can be an incredibly useful tool in teaching dogs how to settle on their own. Lilo already had some practice here, and knew exactly what to do! When a nice settle turns into a big nap, you know you're doing it right!
