Danville, we want to hear from YOU!

As you know, the city's shelter assessment will take a closer look on how they can create better outcomes for pets and the people who care about them.

💬 But we want to hear from the community:
- What changes would you most like to see in Danville's animal services?
- What questions do you hope the independent assessment will answer?
- Are there programs, services, or partnerships you'd like to see expanded?

Share your thoughts in the comments or send us a message!

Best Friends Animal Society acknowledges that emotions in Danville are running high, and understandably so. The loss of any pet that had a chance for a positive outcome is heartbreaking, and we share the community's grief and its determination to see things change.

At the same time, some recent online comments have crossed the line into personal attacks. We understand where the frustration comes from, but attacks on individuals ultimately distract from the work of saving animals' lives.

In that spirit of collaboration, Best Friends wishes to offer the city concrete support: training and resources for local police and animal control officers, and a partnership with city leadership and the shelter to increase transparency and lifesaving while the broader assessment is planned.

For too long, this conversation has centered on individuals and groups. It's time to bring the focus back to what matters most: getting these animals into loving homes.

We invite the city, the shelter, and the community to meet us there.

Danville has committed to seeking an assessment of animal services. So, what happens next?

The next major step is for the City to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) so qualified organizations can apply to conduct the assessment.

We’ll continue following the process and advocating for an assessment that is truly independent, comprehensive, and conducted by a provider with meaningful animal sheltering and animal services expertise.

So, what exactly is a shelter assessment?
Think of it as a roadmap: an independent look at what's working, where there are opportunities to improve, and what steps could help strengthen services for Danville's pets and people.

We'll continue keeping the community informed as the process moves forward.🐾
