We had a wonderful time at the Colonial Shetland Sheepdog Club specialty shows today!

šŸ•ÆļøWick (CH Incendio Foxglove Burn After Writing FDC MX MXJ MJB XF BCAT CGC T2B) was Best of Opposite under Charlotte Clem McGowan in the afternoon show for a 5-point GCH major!

(The race is onā€¦ which title will Wick earn first: GCH or MACH? šŸ¤”)

Weā€™re taking the agility trial by storm!

Yesterday Firstborn and Sable helped us set up & supervised run-throughs. Today Blue and Merley hung out all day and socialized. As you can see, Blue was quite stressed by the whole experience and couldnā€™t possibly relax. šŸ˜œ

(Perhaps a member of Merleyā€™s fan club can share a picā€¦ he was a very busy guy!)

Donā€™t worry, Pegleg fansā€¦ Tomorrow is his turn!

One last social media catch up post! Last Saturday we took Merley and Pegleg out for socialization trips. Pegleg visited our local feed & hardware store, helping us shop for bird seed and suet. It was slow going only because EVERYTHING was excitingā€¦ the staff, the kids, the chicks, the planters full of pansies, the bucket selectionā€¦ šŸ„

Pegleg is looking for a new zip code šŸ” that will continue regular training. He is the SWEETEST, kissiest, most cheerful little dude but sadly does not have ideal structure for agility. Weā€™re seeking an active pet home that will keep his mind busy; heā€™d be a great therapy dog candidate or nosework dog. He will likely mature around 14-15ā€ tall and weigh around 15 pounds.

Weā€™re a bit behind on social mediaā€¦ on Saturday we took Merley and Pegleg out for socialization trips. Merley here perused the center of Danielson, learning about flower petals, cigarette butts (ew), pedestrians, screaming cats, fire hydrants, and more. šŸ±

Merley is looking for a new zip code šŸ” that will continue regular training. He has a great ā€œoff switchā€ and excellent structure; he is a great sport prospect but would also be happy as an active pet. He will be oversize when fully grown, meaning over 16ā€ tall and over 20 pounds.

DRUM SOLO! šŸ„

We feed the pups in wire crates just to get them used to a different enclosure ā€” they also go in Vari Kennels, Rufflands, and Impact crates for variety.

They get at least 2 meals a day in food-dispensing toys but occasionally eat out of a bowl, too.

The combination of wire crate + metal food bowl was an opportunity Merley couldnā€™t pass up. šŸ˜‚

(Yes, these crates are a lil small ā€” theyā€™re *only* in them at mealtime!)

We get a lot of compliments on the results of our leash training, so we thought weā€™d pull back the curtain and show yā€™all how we do it!

We practice this everywhere we take the puppies once they hit 8-9 weeks old. A little investment up front pays dividends later.

Teach them what you WANT them to do (walk at your side) rather than getting frustrated when they do what comes naturally to them (bark, run, lunge, jump, pull). šŸ’›

(Bringing a 4+ month old puppy to a dog show and bragging that itā€™s his first time on leash isnā€™t a flex, and itā€™s gross that this is still normalized in this breed.)
