New proven het: Motley. One of these parents was het Motley, the other is het motley or stripe. Unknown without test breeding or shed test. 2 motleys were produced but were failure to thrive.

This clutch was highly anticipated by us but somewhat disappointing... we were so excited to produce Butter Palmettos! But we were hoping for no bug-eyed babies... then Big-Eyes McGee over here popped out 😅 so now we're torn as to whether we should repeat the breeding one more time to find out if it was due to this particular pairing, or use a different male next time. These babies also started out pretty small from small eggs... hopefully only due to being Daenerys' first breeding season.

The female palmettos are much more attractive and structurally sound, but I think the best bet for this clutch would be pet homes. They will likely be listed accordingly on MM when ready. We are holding back babies 1 and 2, so Big-Eyes McGee can get some size onto him and we can see how the Butter Palmetto female looks after a few more sheds before deciding on her.

Proven with this breeding:
Toffee being homozygous Anery, inheritability of her brown tones and cream base color, her being Ultramel as opposed to homozygous Ultra or some other hypo type gene.

I didn't know what to expect with this clutch... Toffee has always been a head-scratcher for us. For those who predicted she was Ultramel Anery, you were right!!! Most Ultramel Aneries tend to be shades of Grey (like Meraxes, our female who will be bred 2027 and featured here soon!), but Toffee here is clearly a beautiful Chocolate/Coffee Brown with cream base color. Most of her Ultramel Anery babies this year exhibit similar tones, one or two are darker or lighter. The normal patterned snows are a unique cream color, like the cream separating from fresh milk.

Last year her "normal" babies mostly exhibited something similar to yellow coat/jacket, but I struggle to identify genes like that. Either way, some additional gene is at work here with a dominant or incomplete dominant form of inheritance.

What do I call this new line? I will be holding back at least 2.2 from this clutch, likely 2.3.

Wtf 🤯

Very surprising clutch... lots of Zigzag and Aztec markings. Didn't know Linguini was get for Anery! More details later, these guys only hatched 2 days ago.

What a fun clutch this was! Perfect eggs with perfect babies. The trouble was the 1st 2 motleys... I thought they were moonstones!!! Unfortunately as they have had their second shed (these pics were after their first shed) I can tell they are not... Definitely ghosts though! Many babies in this clutch are showing Red Factor, but its nearly impossible to catch on camera. It's also somewhat suppressed since these are not amels and are still very young. It gets better with age!

I would safely say Nyx is Coral (one copy redfactor) but Crüe could be Coral or Salmon (one or two copies, respectively). She was also 50% pos het Motley OR Stripe before this breeding. Clearly she inherited Motley from her mom! Otherwise some babies would've been stripes too.

Since dad is Motley-stripe, he passed on either a copy of Motley or Stripe to all of his offspring. This means all normal patterned babies will be het for one or the other. Visual Motleys inherited a copy of Motley from mom and either Motley or Stripe from dad.

World's first?

*Motley* Red Zeppelin
Produced by Tony Dongarra from traceable locality lineage within his collection.

If this animal proves out to be genetically Motley as it's phenotype indicates, this would be an example of a spontaneous mutation much like the first Red Zeppelin was. Neither of the parents carry the genes for Motley or Stripe, and have been bred multiple times never producing a motley animal before this one. Tony is one of the founders of Red Zeppelin, and produced this animal from lineage that can be traced back to Sherman line locality and wild caught animals collected by Chip Bridges (locality Buckskin Okeetee animals). The ancestors of the pictured Motley Red Zeppelin have been in Tony’s collection for 20+ years and never produced anything like this.

We're so thankful to have this animal in our collection now courtesy of Tony D, and plan to ONLY breed her to locality Okeetee stock (including the known locality morphs: Red Zeppelin, Sunkissed, standard Okeetee) with traceable lineage. Luckily we have several from Lee Abbott, Tony Dongarra, Mike's Motleys, and Chris Montross.

So I'm looking at this Tessera but...

Neither parent is tessera 🤨
Neither grandparent is tessera...
So why is this tessera???

100% keeping this one to test breed later. I think it's most likely an Aztec that *LOOKS* like a tessera, but everything about this one's appearance lines up with tessera 🤨🤔🤯

Edit: this little one has full belly checkers, just like many tesseras I've seen and hatched. So definitely not visual Motley in any way!

Diffused was a surprise on Macho's side of this pairing! We're not sure which Parent (Archangel or Silverwing) passed this het down, but we have several siblings from that original pairing and a few half siblings from each of them, so that answer may come in the future!

I'm pretty certain that the one baby is a moonstone, but I will send in a shed sample to Rare Genetics Inc to be sure! If she is, she's a keeper. If she isn't (winds up being a ghost bloodred instead) she will NOT be held back. Too many other keepers!!!
