This is Beezy - the ‘wonder pup.’ The history on Beezy was that she had a traumatically dislocated tibial-tarsal joint, multiple ligament ruptures, avulsion fractures, ripped open joint capsuke, multiple tears and derangement of the joint cartilage in multiple spots, 💯 % unable to use that back leg, extremely painful, (pain score 10), and what we refer to complete derangement of the TT joint.

She had been to taken to two other surgeons who offered all that they could, arthrodesis of the joint with permanent lameness and pain management, amputatuon, or, euthanasia since the former two were not likely to help for very long.

At the very least, she’d never run again, and maybe only walk short distances.

When we saw her, she came in with a cast on that foot and leg and it was casted in place for 10+ days with the bones in the wrong position, making the pain and swelling worse.

We used a revolutionary ‘new’ concept called the Slocum Joint Hinge, never even opened or explored the joint, and, well, the rest is history! Here she is at around 9 YEARS post-op running in the sand on the beaches of Hawaii where her wonderful owners relocated to shortly after her surgery at Beachside Animal Hospital and Surgery Center in Capo Beach!!

Can you spit which actual real leg i corrected surgically? Running in loose sand is the truest natural test of excellent form and pain-free, arthritis-free function!

Post-op radiographs from a case 5 years ago of a bilateral, (done the same day), chronic, ACL rupture with meniscal damage dog that was also severely hypothyroid. Looking at the three ‘A’s’, apposition and alignment are both good, activity would have been also good had the client followed closely the post-operative instructions that she signed her name to, agreeing to provide. Even said she was an RVT.

We cannot stress enough how important it is to follow all post-operative instructions to the letter for the first two weeks until skin and soft tissue are healed, and then, also, on bone and joint repairs like what this is, strict leash confinement until the bone has had a chance to heal. Super important to provide the proper post operative follow up care to ensure a perfect outcome! Shannon’s case.

Eight years post-operative correction with special hinged fixator. Mind you, she’s running uphill and in soft sand. No better test on joint flexibility, function, form, and weight-bearing than that.

Zero lameness. Zero amputation. Zero fusion. Zero euthanasia.
