If you're struggling to teach your pup what you want, remember this:

Patience and consistency are more important than perfection or long training hours.

This week, take five minutes a day to work on leash manners. Show them staying with you is the most fun thing in the world by rewarding them when they're walking nicely.

Need help? I'm here for you! Group and private lessons available.

The triple digit heat may be tapering off, but that asphalt is still hot enough to cook an egg and melt brains.

Your dogs are even more sensitive to heat than you.

A dog's main cooling mechanism is panting, or sweating through the pads of their feet. But that's it. Plus, they run a little hotter than we humans. It makes this weather even more dangerous.

Keep your dogs safe from heat stress and heat stroke with a few easy tips.

Are you looking for outstanding group obedience lessons?

Here they are!

First session starts on September 16 and I'm keeping classes small so I can balance your needs in a six-week class your dog will love.

Is this for you?

If you've got a new dog, a beginner dog, or a young dog who needs to learn basic manners and obedience — yes!

What your dog will learn:
—Sit, stay, come, down, and more.
—Impulse control
—Leash manners

Canine Good Citizen testing will also be available at the end of the six-week class.

Each weekly class is one-hour in East Dallas, exact location shared with paid students only.

DM me, leave a comment, or email me at mailto:[email protected] for more information or to get started.

$225 per dog and handler, let's get your dog ready for adventure weather in a fun, positive class.

There are some fantastic places to take your dog for some extra training practice when they're ready ... and maybe when it's not boiling hot.

For now, a few on our list work well in early morning or later evenings, and when the sun takes mercy on North Texas, it'll be even easier.

Do you know of a place in East Texas we missed? Drop it in the comments!

Let's get something straight about training tools: for every tool there are pros and cons, and no one tool works for every single dog, just like a cookie cutter training approach doesn't work for every dog.

Here's what I've heard from other trainers:

— Don't use treats because they'll never learn to work without food.
— He'll never get off the e-collar once he's used one (after a trainer I worked for made me put one on him at 12 weeks).
— Prong collars cause pain and make problems worse.
— Head-halters are gentle (as a dog was panicking because of the contraption).
— Slip leads only choke out dogs.

Turn up the volume and listen as I guide Cowboy over these pylons:
He's 4.5 years old, doing this as I hold a 4-month old puppy with kids running around behind us.

Our relationship has been better than ever.

Y'all, the tool is not the training. Meet your dog where they are, build the relationship with fair expectations and clarity — your dog will thank you.

We have a secret to share 🙊

Well not entirely a secret as a bunch of people know 🤣 but we are making it official. We have a new addition to our team!

We would like to give a huge welcome to Brisket on the Board! She is a gorgeous Beauceron from Beaucerons of the Lost Woods. I've been looking to add a 3rd dog to our team but not this soon. But she is the perfect girl in what I was looking for. We have lots of goals with her. Planning to get into even more sports like bite work and herding. Ideally tho the most important part was a new demo dog. Cowboy is doing fine but he isn't a fan of other dogs or people he doesn't know. He tolerates them but the last event he came with me to, I could tell he rather just work for me and not mingle. So we were looking for a very friendly girl who will interact with others and other dogs but still have that drive to work for her handler and BOOM came little miss Brisket.
Right now we are working on foundation of basics and building drive. We are also joining her siblings at UKC and AKC shows. Which is definitely a change but we have massive support from her breeders and friends.

Stevie and Cowboy (and even my partner) are all loving the new addition. Super excited to start this new journey 🥰
