That’s a wrap on summer. 🌱
It’s hard to sum up a season like this one. There were early mornings and long afternoons. There was dirt under our nails and sun on our backs. There were weeks where everything grew faster than we could keep up with, and weeks where we were just out there doing the quiet work that nobody sees.
We showed up for our community, and our community showed up right back. We met new faces, welcomed volunteers who gave us their time without hesitation, and shared this place with people who had never set foot on a farm before.
Every season teaches us something. This one reminded us why we do this work in the first place.
Thank you to everyone who was a part of it. On to fall.

🌱 One month away.
North Texas Giving Day is coming up, and we are getting ready.
At Restorative Farms, we are growing more than produce. We are growing opportunity, resilience, and a food system that South Dallas can count on. That means training the next generation of urban farmers. It means getting fresh, locally grown food to families who need it. It means creating real pathways to jobs and economic self-sufficiency right here in our community.
None of that happens without people who believe in it.
Our goal this year is $10,000, and every dollar goes directly toward growing the people, programs, and infrastructure that make this work possible.
Dallas grown, community sown. Mark your calendar.

🌱 A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered at Restorative Farms this summer.
You showed up and offered your time without hesitation. You made a real difference every day. And you brought compassion to every task, whether it was the visible work or the not so visible work.
This summer, that meant pulling w**ds, sanitizing equipment, installing posts, trellises, and shade cloth, and tackling all the behind the scenes tasks that keep a farm running smoothly. It is not always the most glamorous work, but it is essential, and we notice every bit of it.
Thank you to the SMU Anthropology Department for spending a morning with us in June. Thank you to our Whole Foods volunteers who came out in July. And thank you to everyone from the Bertrand Community Cleanup who spent a Saturday with us building a better neighborhood.
This farm runs because of people like you. We are endlessly grateful.

🌱 This summer, by the numbers.
Our team has been busy. From June through July, Restorative Farms harvested close to 1,000 pounds of fresh produce across our TapKit, Soil Farm, and Greenhouse.
196 lbs of lettuce and spinach from the TapKit. 500 lbs harvested from the Soil Farm, and that number is likely still growing as July totals come in. 82 lbs of microgreens from the greenhouse.
And we brought it all straight to our community. This summer alone, our team has attended 9 farmers markets at Saint Michael’s, with 5 more still to come before the season wraps.
This is what growing for South Dallas looks like.

🌱 Meet Larry.
Larry has been with Restorative Farms for about a year and a half. In the mornings you will find him in the transplant kit, seeding and transplanting. Beyond that, he is the one keeping the land in shape, w**d eating and mowing, and he steps in at the farmers market whenever he is needed.
Here is Larry in his own words on his favorite part of the job:
“My favorite thing is making sure the vegetables grow properly. Meaning watering them at the right time of day, spraying them with pesticides to keep the bugs and worms away, and also learning new ideas and techniques to keep the vegetables growing smoothly.”
A year and a half of showing up and doing it right. That is Larry.

🌱 Meet Andrew, one of our summer interns!
Andrew is 16 years old and a student at Highland Park High School, right here in Dallas. This summer he has spent his time seeding, transplanting, and getting hands on with just about every part of the farm.
When he is not on the farm, you will probably find him in the kitchen. His favorite pastime is cooking, which honestly makes sense for someone who spends his days working with fresh produce.
Thank you for your hard work this summer, Andrew. We are grateful for you.

🌱 Meet JC.
JC Correa has been with Restorative Farms for a little over three years. Ask him what he does around here and he’ll tell you straight: “A lot of operations. A little bit of everything.”
That is the honest answer. On any given day JC is moving between the greenhouse, the fields, the markets, and everything in between. He is one of the people who keeps this farm running.
Three years of showing up. That is JC.

🌱 Happy Birthday, Freddie.
On July 22, Freddie Cavazos chose to spend his birthday the way he spends most of his time, showing up for others. Freddie brought a team of Whole Foods Market Culture Champions to our South Dallas farm for a morning of volunteering, sleeves rolled up and hands in the soil.
Freddie has been one of Restorative Farms’ strongest advocates for a long time. He has nominated us for the Whole Foods Market Foundation Community First Grant multiple times and has shared our story far beyond the farm gates. That kind of support does not go unnoticed.
On a birthday, you can celebrate almost anywhere. Freddie chose here. That says everything.
Thank you, Freddie. For your friendship, your leadership, and for reminding us that the strongest communities are built together.

🌱 Last Saturday, we showed up for South Dallas.
Restorative Farms teamed up with the Bertrand Community for a morning of cleaning up, connecting, and coming together. Volunteers met at the farm, rolled up their sleeves, and spent the morning taking care of the neighborhood they call home.
This is what it looks like when neighbors show up for each other. Thank you to everyone who came out and a huge thank you to the Bertrand Community for having us.
