It’s breast cancer awareness month, so here’s my friendly reminder to get your 👙 checked. Earlier this year, I went for my routine annual mammogram. Because I have dense breast tissue, this year we did a follow-up ultrasound to be safe. The moment the sonographer started circling an area and kept coming back to it, my heart sank. A lump, “probably benign, but we’ll monitor it.” I called my mom from the parking lot in tears and decided to push forward with additional testing instead of waiting it out for a year. What followed was two months of emotional 😵💫, being incorrectly told I had a 45% lifetime risk of breast cancer and having conversations about whether to pre-emptively schedule a double mastectomy to get ahead of it. Luckily, my MRI supported the likelihood that the lump is benign, and genetic testing came back with no markers for cancer 🤯
Today I had my 6 month recheck and the ultrasound showed no signs of change 👏 Stay on top of your health and advocate for yourself. Your pups need you.
