Lakewood Veterinary Center provides excellent medical care for your pets.

We understand the special role your pet plays in your family and are dedicated to becoming your partner in your pet's health care. From small to exotic animals, we treat each patient as if they were our own best friend! We will work one-on-one with you to design a specific health care strategy according to the age, breed, health status, and potential exposures your pet may encounter. The old "cookie cutter" approach where every pet receives the same preventive measures just doesn't cut it anymore.

Cooler weather brings some seasonal hazards that deserve a spot on every pet parent’s radar.

Antifreeze and rodenticides can be extremely dangerous to pets if ingested. Fall yard and garage projects may also put pets in contact with chemicals or unfamiliar mushrooms and plants.

Store automotive products, pest-control products, and lawn chemicals securely and clean up spills immediately. When walking your dog, keep an eye on what they’re sniffing or trying to eat.

If you know or suspect your pet has ingested something toxic, don’t wait for symptoms to appear. Contact Lakewood Vet or pet poison-control service right away.

They comfort nervous patients, assist our veterinarians, monitor anesthesia, collect samples, help with diagnostics, educate pet parents—and somehow still find time for an encouraging scratch behind the ears.

October 18–24 is National Veterinary Technician Week, and we’re celebrating the skilled, compassionate veterinary technicians who play such an important role in caring for our neighborhood pets.

We’re incredibly grateful for everything our veterinary technicians bring to our hospital, our patients, and their families every day.

Rabies is a deadly disease—but vaccination provides an important line of defense for pets and the people who love them.

For World Rabies Day on September 28, take a moment to check your pet’s vaccination records and make sure their rabies protection is current. Even pets that spend most of their time indoors can have unexpected encounters with wildlife.

Pets can’t tell us when something hurts—and many are surprisingly good at hiding discomfort.

Changes such as slowing down, hesitating on stairs, sleeping more, hiding, decreased appetite, difficulty getting comfortable, or becoming unusually irritable can all be reasons to take a closer look.

September is Animal Pain Awareness Month, a good reminder that changes in your pet’s behavior or routine shouldn’t simply be dismissed as “getting older.”

If your pet needs medication refills, prescription diets, or other supplies, please call us at 214-826-4800 before the holiday weekend so we can help you prepare.

If your pet experiences a medical emergency while we're closed, please contact your nearest emergency veterinary hospital.
