š·š SHE WAITED ALMOST A YEAR FOR SOMEONE TO SAY āYESāā¦ WE DID! WILBUR IS COMING HOME. ā¤ļø
Even when we say we are NOT accepting intakes, Be Forever Loved will always try to help when an animal is in crisis!
When an animalās safety, health ā or very life ā is at risk, sometimes we just have to make room.
This time, weāre making room for Wilbur! ā¤ļø And SURPRISEā¦ Wilbur is a GIRL! šš·
Almost a year ago, this beautiful girl wandered out of the woods and onto the property of a woman who knew nothing about pigs - all she knew is that Wilbur needed help!
So she fed her, protected her, worried about her and did all she could with what little she had.
For nearly a year, she tried to find her owner or someone willing to give Wilbur a safe place to call home, but no one came.
Meanwhile, dangers lurked and grew closer! Neighborsā murderous dogs have come onto the property and chickens and turkeys have already been killed. Animal Control was called, but by the time they arrived, the dogs are gone ā leaving only the gory devastation behind. Wilbur could very easily be next.
When I spoke with the woman who has been caring for her, we talked for nearly two hours. She doesnāt want to give Wilbur up, she loves her. Butā¦. She knows that sometimes loving an animal means recognizing that love alone cannot keep them safe.
On her limited income, she simply cannot build what Wilbur needs to protect her from the dogs and coyotes. And after trying for nearly a year to find help, time is running out.
Thatās when Steve Reece and Sean Thomas reached out to us for help.
Could we help? There really was only one answer - YES!
So tomorrow evening, if everything goes according to plan, a little black pig who wandered out of the woods nearly a year ago will arrive at Be Forever Loved. This time, sheāll be HOME. ā¤ļø
We already know Wilbur is going to need some help.
Her feet are in terrible condition, and they appear to be affecting her ability to walk and her inability to walk contributes to her obesity!
Our amazing farrier, 4K Farm & Mobile Hoof Trims, is already on standby and has agreed to change her schedule around a bit so she come out as soon as we tell her Wilbur has arrived.
We also anticipate a veterinary visit for a complete health evaluation and to determine what we can do to help manage her pain and get her up and walking!
Apparently, Miss Wilbur comes with her very own expectations and demands. š
We have already been instructed that: She doesnāt like watermelon ā but loves the rind.
She doesnāt care for cantaloupe ā but grapes are acceptable.
Sheās even particular about which pig pellets are on her menu.
And people? Wellā¦ sheās not exactly a fan of being handledā¦. And you know what? Thatās okay too! We donāt bring animals here to love us! We bring them here to show then that they are valued and loved!!!
So, tomorrow, Wilbur begins her new chapter. No more searching for a home or waiting for someone to help up. No more wondering where she will go or where she will end up
Whether we are blessed to love her for a day, a month, a year, or a decadeā¦
