I touched on day one of our Horsemanship camp & to think I was going to keep up posting daily was ambitious 😁

The rest of our week was fun filled with so much education & new experiences! Huge thanks to our horse care providers for taking the time to come do examples for the riders and takes questions!
- Greg Owen was out to show us his excellent farrier skills.
- The wonderful Liz Cannon spent the afternoon sharing her knowledge of equine bodywork.
- Dr. Jerri Lee Cave came out to show the girl examples of what a basic PPE would look like, flexions, x rays and went over findings on the x rays with everyone.

From sharpening up our knowledge on parts of the horse, bridle, saddle - to building their own courses, being apart of the day to day work that happens in a training facility and keeping a horse care journal of their assigned horses - we covered many bases of horsemanship this week!!

We were so lucky to have so many wonderful horses to be apart of our camp - the girls were able to ride horses they hadn’t had the opportunity to ride yet! They built their own course to finish off the week with a fun gamblers choice set up for everyone to try!! So much fun was had💕Huge thank you to everyone who made our first Horsemanship camp a huge hit!

Keeping up with social media posting has never been my strong suit so let me catch up on everything Pierce Point lately! 😅

In July we spent the weekend at Brave Horse for our first time attending the NEST series! This was a lovely show put on at one of my favorite venues! We already can’t wait to go back!

✨Highlights include ✨

✨Priscilla & Snail Mail took on their first ever horse show together!! There was so much learning and growth that took place just in the three days of showing - I was so incredibly proud of this team. The cherry on top was ending the weekend Grand Champion in their division!

✨Samantha & Smugglers Run had lovely rounds in the their division to start off the week and a top placing in a large flat class on Friday! They ended their weekend with smooth & consistent rounds! Proud of this team for the determination in and out of the ring!

✨Brinley & Wisteria got to head back to the show ring for the first time since fall 2024 and they shined together!! To see them back in the ring together meant more than any ribbon to me💕 These two laid down very consistent rounds everyday at the show ended with a WIN in the .75 Jumpers !!

So proud of these girls and how they showed up for each other and their horses all week!! Huge thank you to everyone behind the scenes from the parents to the veterinarians and farriers!! It takes a village ❤️

Our first day of horsemanship camp is complete! Today we started off by testing our knowledge with a Pony Club style horsemanship test that we will circle back to at the end of the week to see how much they learned! Then each student got a lunge line lesson working on jumping with no stirrups and even no reins. Each rider was then assigned a horse for the week that they are in charge of grooming, medicating and keeping track of the horses care with journal entries.

We were lucky enough for our first day of camp to have a group liberty session with Allison Whistler! Huge thank you to her for making time to come out for us. After our liberty lesson we saddled up to do a light pole work lesson and trail ride! What a lovely first day 💕

The horses are inside with hay, fresh water, clean stalls & fans on each stall daily. Night time turnout to ensure they don’t get too hot in the summer heat.

What a great read!

In a sport where ambition often pushes riders to seek bigger, more talented, and more challenging horses, the idea of being “under-mounted” can feel counterintuitive. But according to top hunter rider and trainer Geoff Teall, riding a horse that is easier than your skill level is one of the smartest ways to improve.

Understanding what that means and why it matters can change the way riders approach both training and horse selection.

Being under-mounted does not mean riding a poor-quality horse or one that lacks ability. As Teall explains, “Your horse should be too easy for you to handle.” This kind of match removes unnecessary complications and allows the rider to focus on developing their own skills.

When a rider is on a horse that is too difficult or unpredictable, much of their attention is spent managing the horse; instead of working on position, timing, and feel, they are focused on simply getting through the ride. “If you’re under-mounted, then you will be able to put any worries about your horse out of your mind,” he shares.

Without those distractions, riders can direct their energy toward improving their technique.

Our first horse show clinic in the books! We had a wonderful day of learning and figuring out what everyone needs to work on for this season! The girls showed so much independence from learning / walking their own courses without any guidance, fully bathing , grooming , tacking, everything all on their own from start to finish of a horse show day.

Everyone was so supportive of one another, it was truly so heart warming to see all of the girls work together like they did today. ❤️
It wouldn’t be a real “horse show” experience if we didn’t get rained on 😅 We decided to end our day with a ba****ck class in the indoor which was a huge hit with giggles heard throughout the barn the entire time 😆 Thank you to everyone who joined us today! The best time of the year is finally upon us!!! Summer show season 🤩

🥇Samantha & Smugglers Run came to take blues now and names later by winning every single Long Stirrup Hunter & Equitation class along with champion in both divisions. To watch this pair grow as a team and be more confident within each other is really starting to show. ❤️

🥇Natalie & Tricky Situation joined us for their first show with Pierce Point and this young horse exceeded all of our expectations!! Tricky took home all blue ribbons and even a Champion in the ground poles. This team is gonna go far together!!💙

🥇Isabel & Penny for your thoughts joined us for this horses first ever show and she blew it out of the park! Winning the IHJA hunter AND the Hunt N Go derby!!! Isabel has done a lovely job bringing this horse along and it was so nice to watch their hard work pay off.💕

As always big thank you to our riders, parents and H&H stables for such a lovely weekend.

Is your kiddo new to showing and you want to ensure they are prepared for their first show? Or your teen that’s been showing a few times and you want to sharpen their knowledge on all the ins and outs of being independent at horse shows?

Then sign them up for our horse show clinic day!
Our first session will be only open for our in barn students and no, you don’t have to have your own horse to be a part of this!!! Our second session will be open to outside riders who have their own horse. Stalls available for hauls ins.

Two separate full-day sessions: Saturday, June 6, 2026 OR Saturday, August 1, 2026. 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM.

This isn't a riding lesson with a ribbon at the end. It's a real show day, ran start to finish, with your rider doing every part of it on their own
— bathing, pre and post showing horse care, walking the course, clean and properly fitting tack and clothing, executing a hunter/jumper round, how to showcase your horse in a flat class and proper after-care. We score every round and break it down together. No ribbons. No guessing. Real growth and understanding.

By the end of the day, your rider will know how to run a show day without anyone holding the reins.

What you'll cover:
— Bathing, grooming, braiding, mane and tail prep
— Tack cleaning, fitting and presentation
— Course walking and ring strategy
— Hunter / jumper round with real feedback and scoring. This will include being warmed up by trainer just like at a horse show. Riders get one flat class, one warm up over fences and 2 over fences rounds for their “division”.
— Icing, liniment, feet packing, medicating and proper leg wrapping
— Group trail ride to close the day

— Lunch (pizza + drinks)
— Take-home T-shirt or saddle pad
— Personalized feedback on every round
