🦟 Did you know that Lyme disease-affected pets do not develop the classic bullseye rash seen in humans? In fact, many pets show no signs at all, or their signs are often vague and nonspecific, which sometimes results in an incorrect or delayed diagnosis.

At Cupertino Animal Hospital, Lyme disease testing (i.e., a blood test) is advised for pets with clinical signs that include fever, lethargy, appetite loss, swollen lymph nodes, intermittent lameness, and painful or swollen joints.

Because Lyme disease signs can come and go or be entirely absent, we recommend dogs be tested annually for tick-borne diseases, which involves a simple blood test similar to their yearly heartworm test. Protect your furry friend from this debilitating condition by contacting us at 408-252-6380. 🐾

Did you know that your cat might be trying to find a safe place for his favorite toys? It's not uncommon for cats to drop their toys in their water or food bowl. In the wild, cats hide their prey from predators, and indoor cats consider their food and water dishes as the safest areas in their territory.

Did you know that dental treats for dogs are a great way to improve your pup’s oral health?

Here are some reasons why:
1️⃣ Dental treats are made specifically to remove plaque buildup and clean your dog’s mouth.
2️⃣ They often contain ingredients that freshen breath and help maintain your pet's oral hygiene.
3️⃣ Dental treats come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and flavors, making it easy to find one your furry friend loves.
4️⃣ They are generally much more appreciated by our dogs than traditional toothbrushes or wipes.

Make sure to choose dental treats that are appropriate for your dog's size and needs. As always, talk to your vet about what dental care routine is best for your furry friend. Happy chewing!

Ear infections in dogs and cats often develop quietly long before they become obvious, and over-cleaning healthy ears can create problems just as readily as under-cleaning them. Knowing how often to inspect, when cleaning is genuinely needed, and what warning signs warrant a vet visit makes a real difference. Our team at Cupertino Animal Hospital walks through what a healthy ear looks like, when to clean and when to leave well enough alone, and why our Pet Ear Care Center sees so many cases that other practices haven't been able to resolve.

Is your pet's diet up to par? Just like with humans, nutrition is essential for our furry friends. After checking your pet's body condition score, take a closer look at what they're eating.

Does their food contain high-quality ingredients like lean proteins, complex carbs, and healthy fats? Or do they eat a "junk food" diet full of sugar and empty calories?

Even small treats can add up quickly and provide little to no nutritional value.

Evaluate your pet's daily diet to see if it needs adjusting. And don't hesitate to reach out to our team for help.

Choosing the appropriate diet for your pet can be challenging, but we're here to help. to talk to your veterinarian.
