It's been one of the most exciting and busy weeks in the history of Furkids! Between opening our new Sutherlin Dog Shelter and all the excitement in between, it's been one for the books.

🎉 Yesterday, we welcomed our dogs onto our headquarters campus and into their new home at Furkids' Sutherlin Dog Shelter. We have waited so long for this moment and can't believe it's finally here!
🐶 We celebrated our last adoption inside Sadie's Place, the shelter our dogs have called home for over a decade. Our lucky girl, Luna, got to head off to her new home and we are so happy for her.
🧡 We stopped by our Peachtree Corners Adoption Center this week to check out the newly-renovated space in preparation for our open house this Sunday! Come see us from 4-6pm to see our renovations, meet our adorable kitties, and learn how you can get involved at Furkids.
😺 We want to provide a quick update about the 44 kitties we rescued last week after they were exposed to a deadly illness at animal control and were at-risk of euthanasia. We are happy to share that so far, none have broken with any illness. However, three had other health challenges that required medical intervention. We will update more soon!
💙 Wednesday was a very special day for Monty and Bob - two of our FIV+ kitties! Bob came to us from a hoarding case earlier this year & Monty was rescued last year in awful condition from an animal control. With some TLC and patience, they scored the perfect home this week and we couldn't be happier for them.

Before he was rescued, Casper lived his entire life in an outdoor enclosure with little human interaction. His emaciated body reflected years of neglect and a lack of love. Thankfully, concerned community members noticed him, spoke out for him, and rescued him from the terrible situation he was in. 🤍

It's always soul-stirring when you meet a dog who has been through so much hurt, one who has been mistreated by humans their entire life - but is still willing to give and receive love. After meeting Casper, we quickly fell in love with his uniquely goofy personality and excitement for life.

Casper is housetrained, but still needs a little guidance with manners and commands. He's also shown to be selective of other dogs, but with thoughtful introductions - we think he'd do well. After beginning life in a really rough spot, 1.5-year-old Casper is ready to spend the rest of days with a family who loves him. Today marks a monumental day for Furkids. This morning, our dogs and dog operations will leave Sadie’s Place - the dog shelter that has been our home, and the heart of our lifesaving work, since 2011. While it’s difficult to say goodbye to a place filled with so many memories, and so much love, we’re excited to begin this next chapter.

Our final adoption from Sadie’s Place is our sweet girl, Luna, who found an incredible family ready to love her for the rest of her life.

The last dog to call Sadie’s Place home is Abraham, whom we rescued from an overcrowded animal control facility just yesterday. From the day we first opened these doors to the moment we close them behind us, this shelter has been dedicated to one mission: saving lives.

Thank you to every staff member, volunteer, adopter, and supporter who helped make Sadie’s Place so special! Your compassion and commitment made countless happy endings possible.

We can’t wait to welcome you to the next chapter of our story at the brand-new Furkids Sutherlin Dog Shelter. The address may be changing, but our mission remains the same: saving lives and helping pets find the loving homes they deserve. 🫶🧡

You know that one friend you'd do absolutely anything for? Starling and Sugar are that for each other. 💕

Dumped by their previous family, these two never once let go of each other, and they never will. Starling, a 1.5-year-old low-riding pittie mix, coming in at 25 lbs, is a professional sweetheart. Her bestie, Sugar, a 1-year-old old terrier mix weighing 6 lbs is tiny but mighty, and packed with spunky personality. They're the kind of best friends people write movies about. 🥹

They've since been in foster care, and their foster can't stop doting on these two.. They love everyone. They're nailing potty training and are fully crate trained. They'd love a fenced yard to zoom around in, but more than anything, they just need someone willing to love them both. Behind every foster cat is a family giving them the greatest gift: time to just be. 🐾🧡 Foster care lets our cats step away from the shelter, decompress, and show us who they really are.

Our fosters share everything: how they are with kids, other pets, strangers, and whether they prefer lap time or solo adventures. That knowledge helps us find each cat the home where they'll truly thrive. We have so many wonderful kitties in foster care who are ready to transition into their forever homes. 🏡
