Your dog’s walk actually starts BEFORE you leave the house.

Most people think the walk begins when they step out the door.

But for your dog, it starts much earlier.

Dogs pay attention to everything:
your shoes, your jacket, grabbing your keys, putting on sunglasses.

All of those little routines become predictable signals that a walk is coming.

Over time, it becomes muscle memory.

This means your dog’s energy is often already rising before the leash ever comes out.

One of the most important moments of the entire walk is actually when you put the collar or leash on.

In this video, I’m taking the time to meet Biscuit where he is.

He’s excited about the walk — and that’s okay.

I don’t want him to be a robot with zero energy.

But I do want to help him come down to a more thoughtful, calmer state of mind.

When a dog is calmer, we have more access to their brain.

And, when we have access to their brain, we can give better guidance before, during, and after the walk.

That’s how you create a dog who walks with you, instead of a dog who pulls ahead, making all the decisions.

If you watch closely, you’ll see me slow everything down.

I’m paying attention to Biscuit’s body language, his energy level, and my own.

At one point, I even take a deep breath — and he mirrors it.

Dogs are incredibly sensitive to our nervous systems.

Once the leash is on and he’s settled, I allow him to release a little energy, and then I guide him back to my side.

When he looks up and gives me focus, that’s relevancy.

This is a great time to start moving to the door.

Do you want to love your dog? This is an example of what love looks like ✨⠀
⠀
Recognizing the importance of being mindful and present with your dog on a walk matters — exactly because of moments like this.⠀
⠀
If I had been walking mindlessly, he might have developed a negative association with boxes or unfamiliar objects. Instead, I noticed he was nervous and clearly uncomfortable, so I was able to support him in a respectful way that helped him feel safe.⠀
⠀
With just a little patience, he went from feeling unsure to feeling confident and proud of himself. Taking a few extra moments turned uncertainty into confidence and strengthened our relationship.⠀
⠀
For a dog, or any being, that’s a big part of what love is: being mindfully present with them. 🐾⠀

Annie arrived this morning. Working right away to teach Annie and reminding Gracie that their go-to state of mind inside the house is calm agreement. This is actually a dog's natural default state of mind, so what I am really doing is reminding them what their natural way of being is. It can be really difficult for dogs who are used to practicing higher levels of excitement or have a little anxiety to agree to this state of mind. The more they choose it, experience it, and practice it, the easier it becomes. That is how they realize it feels really good and therefore becomes their default state of mind once again.

Biscuit, my little guy in the dog bed on the couch, is being an excellent role model 😊

I am using the raised cots to provide an easily recognized boundary that helps both Gracie and Annie chill comfortably in one place.

By limiting movement via the use of the raised cots, I am also limiting the amount of excitement, anxiety, or any forward moving state of mind to build. This allows the dogs to choose that calm, agreeable state of mind.

Just so you know, the only reason Gracie is in another room is because she LOVES other dogs and would play 24/7 if given that option. Space/ distance can release the pressure of that excitement and, therefore, allow her to choose that calm, agreeable state of mind. Eventually, they will be in the same room when they both have the capacity & capability to simply chill around each other. They will also get to play with each other when they have earned that privilege and have shown me they understand I am relevant and everything they need & all good things happen when they willingly take my guidance and direction.

The play will be structured and led by me, so it stays safe and enjoyable for all parties involved. The energy/ excitement level of the play will be closely monitored and will not be allowed to get to high levels. This will help the play to remain respectful and fun. It will also teach the girls how to regulate their excitement levels. Everything they learn while here builds and reinforces each other. Impulse control is a huge tool that melts unwanted behavior!

The fun has already begun 😍

"Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another." - Albert Einstein

Find all the ways to keep the vibrational energy that surrounds you positive. Like putting festive sprinkles on your morning coffee. You are worthy of that!

We don't have control over most things in life, but we can control how we ultimately respond to them. Live life being shamelessly authentically you. You'll make mistakes. It's okay. Learn from them. Feel all the feels and choose which one(s) you want to move forward with. You have the power to make the choices that keep the vibrational energy field around you positive!

You are worthy of a life filled with love, laughter, peace, joy & anything else you dream of 🧡

Biscuit would like to remind everyone to always find the ray of sunshine in your life, every day.

I know life can feel really dark, stormy, scary, overwhelming, and even impossible at times. Don't be hard on yourself when it is. You are valid. Your feelings are valid. More than likely, those feelings kept you safe at some point in your life...or maybe still are. The key is, what do you do with them?!

Your actions are the key. We don't have control over the majority of things we experience in life, but we do have control of how we respond.

Please know, I understand it can be extremely hard to find even one ray of sunshine some days. Some days it can feel impossible to even get out if bed.

You can do it. Find just one thing to be grateful for. It could be that bed you are sleeping in, running water, a supportive friend, the phone you are reading this on, you dog! Start a mantra of "I am grateful for..." If it is one thing say it over and over. Next do some stretching and if that is all you can do, great. Keep saying that mantra all day. You may find you can add one more thing you are grateful for to that mantra. The next day do the same thing, but now you can add that you are grateful for stretching 😉

Each day do a little more...and be PROUD of YOURSELF for doing it! Celebrate yourself and your positive/healthy actions! You are worthy of the life you dream of...simply because you were born!

Please remember, the sun is always there; the light is always there. It may just be covered by some clouds and stormy weather, but it is there.

If your dog is the reason for some stormy weather in your life, DM me. I welcome the opportunity to help. If I am booked, I can probably lead you to another amazing trainer.

*it is very important that I recognize some people are in life circumstances where they don't even have control of responses or actions. If this is the case for you, and it is at all possible, please seek out help. Find an advocate who can get you in a safe space*

Life is about more than just surviving. You are worthy of more than that!

Let go of your regrets from yesterday and before. Release you worries of tomorrow and beyond. Shed the fear, doubt, pain, hurt, sorrow & anything else weighing you down. Take that baggage off your back. Most of it is not even yours anyway.

You are not alone. In this moment, I am with you. You are here for a reason. I may not know you, but I love you. WE are one connected energy source. I know you are worthy of love, simply because you were born.

Give yourself the gift of 10 minutes to take that baggage off your back and experience a bit of freedom. This meditation will show you how.

Thank you Insight Timer & Nanak Naam 🙏 This was a beautiful way to start my week.
