Here are last month's numbers with a comparison to last year's September! We took in more animals than last year and that will continue to be the case with the ever-growing populace of Culpeper. Our adoption numbers continue to increase as we begin to focus our efforts towards finding homes rather than transferring them out to another shelter or rescue. While this will be necessary from time to time, transfers should never make up a large portion of your disposition numbers without valid reasoning.

Euthanasia numbers remain mostly out of our control, and it is a burden that county shelters often have to bear. We had two severely injured cats come into our care that were too far gone to effectively manage as well as two kittens who had severe GI issues that would be impossible to overcome. In these 4 cases all cats were examined by a veterinarian who made the call. There was 1 dog behaviorally euthanized due to severe aggression issues. Staff tried for weeks to work with this dog to no avail. In the end it was decided that he could not safely be rehomed if staff is unable to even remove him from his kennel.

We post these numbers for transparency, and all citizens are welcome to come and tour the facility during open hours. Come and see us, we have plenty of wonderful animals up for adoption. A great time to come visit and see all the changes would be our Open House Event on October 24th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM!
Thank you!
