I’ve been seeing quite a few new faces here lately, so it felt like a good time for a proper intro 👋🏼
I’m Alex, the woman behind Roaming Herd.
My story with horses started the same way it does for a lot of us: as a kid at a lesson barn who never quite grew out of it. What started as a phase turned into a lifelong passion, and now most of my free time is spent riding, chasing cows, and wandering the countryside with my horses.
Horses have always been the constant, but my career path didn’t start there. I come from a blue-collar, construction-based family, so I followed that route into engineering. After years of hard work (and plenty of long days), I built a full-time career and have been in that field for about a decade.
But life has a way of shifting your perspective. After losing my mom almost five years ago, I started questioning what I really wanted my day-to-day to look like and sitting behind a desk wasn’t it.
So I made a change.
I went back to school for equine dentistry and started Roaming Herd. For the past four years, I’ve been building this business in the evenings and the weekends.
Getting to work with horses in this way, meeting great clients, and seeing the difference this work makes has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m really looking forward to what’s ahead as I continue to grow.
