𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸: 𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗵𝘆𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗺

Hypothyroidism is one of the 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 (𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗱) hormonal disorders in dogs. It develops gradually and can affect a dog's energy, weight, skin, and overall health.

🐾 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗵𝘆𝗿𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗺?
Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. These hormones help regulate metabolism, so when levels are low, many body systems slow down.

🐾 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿:
• Weight gain despite a normal appetite
• Low energy or lethargy
• Hair loss
• Dry or flaky skin
• Recurrent skin or ear infections
• Intolerance to cold temperatures

🐾 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝘀𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻:
Hypothyroidism is most often seen in middle-aged and older dogs. Because symptoms develop slowly, many owners assume their pet is simply "getting older."

🐾 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴:
• Schedule regular wellness exams
• Monitor for changes in weight, energy, or coat quality
• Investigate recurring skin and ear issues
• Perform routine bloodwork as recommended

Hypothyroidism is typically easy to manage with daily medication, and most dogs return to feeling like themselves once treatment begins.

It might be nice out there today, but it will be hot again soon enough. And as temperatures rise, so does the danger for our pets.

Even on a mild day, the temperature inside a parked vehicle can climb rapidly, becoming life-threatening in just minutes. Cracking the windows or parking in the shade is not enough to keep your pet safe.

In just 20 minutes, the temperature inside a car can increase by nearly 30°F.

🌡️ Heatstroke can occur quickly and can be fatal if not treated immediately.
