I’m going to say what many breeders are afraid to say.

Too many show breeders refuse to share their quality bloodlines with responsible breeding programs simply because those programs are not actively showing dogs. That closed-circle mentality does not protect the dachshund—it limits the breed’s future.

At AZ Doxies, our priority is producing healthy, beautiful, structurally sound dachshunds that will enrich the lives of families. Pet homes deserve excellent structure, stable temperaments, responsible breeding, and quality genetics just as much as show homes do.

Our breeding decisions are intentional. We evaluate structure, health, temperament, CDDY/CDPA status, genetic diversity, and inherited disease risks. We DNA test our dams and sires, complete OFA health testing, and pursue CHIC certification. We were investing in these measures before many breeders considered them important.

Showing can be valuable, but a ribbon is not the only measure of a responsible breeding program. Producing healthier dachshunds and placing them with well-prepared, loving families should matter just as much.

It is disappointing when breeders with valuable genetics hoard them within an exclusive AKC show circle and decide that committed, health-focused programs are somehow “unworthy.” Improving the breed requires cooperation, transparency, and responsible access to quality bloodlines—not gatekeeping based solely on participation in dog shows.

Our goal is not to fit into someone else’s clique. Our goal is to improve the dachshund through health testing, careful selection, sound structure, and truly intentional breeding.

Families deserve better. The breed deserves better. And AZ Doxies will continue working toward both.

🐾 Welcome to the world, little ones! 🐾

Maple and Nikolai welcomed four beautiful babies Aug 17th—two boys and two girls!

Mama Maple is doing wonderfully, and all four puppies are healthy, growing, and already absolutely precious. ❤️

We can’t wait to watch their personalities develop over the coming weeks! They are day 9 here.

At AZ Doxies, we believe in one thing above all else… Prioritize the Puppy. 🐾

Every breeding decision we make starts with health, temperament, structure, and transparency. Our parents are DNA tested, AKC registered, and carefully selected to help produce healthy, well-rounded dachshunds raised inside our home as part of the family.

We know bringing a dachshund into your life is a major commitment, and we take placement seriously. These dogs thrive on companionship and human interaction. Because of that, we strongly prefer homes where someone is present throughout the day — work-from-home families, retirees, stay-at-home spouses, or people able to bring their dog along with them.

If a puppy will be left home alone every day Monday through Friday for long hours, we may not be the right breeder for you — and that’s okay. Our priority is making sure every puppy has the best possible quality of life, attention, and companionship for years to come.

We pride ourselves on full transparency. We openly share our program, our dogs, our pedigrees, and even our location online because we believe trust is earned through honesty and consistency.

At the end of the day, this isn’t just about selling puppies to us. It’s about protecting the breed, supporting families, and doing what’s best for the puppy first. ❤️
