I’m officially naming Luna as our most photogenic client- just look at that beautiful smile!

A few weeks ago, I was a victim of my Facebook algorithm. The saddest post came across my feed- a beautiful husky mix named Ashley was scheduled for euthanasia Sept 4. She had come in as a stray, had a microchip, but when they contacted the owners they claimed they had never had a dog. After a few months, the shelter adopted her out to someone, only to have her returned three days later because she was too clingy with their other dog. And it just broke our hearts. We had already decided 3 dogs was enough, too many really, and she was in Texas on top of everything- but we just couldn’t let her be killed. With the help of a wonderful rescue, they pulled her for us, got her into a foster home for a few weeks of quarantine, and onto a transport to Richmond- which we met at 1 am yesterday morning. Here is our new girl who we are calling Tequila- (for now anyway) because we knew it was a terrible idea but did it anyway! Her first day saw her get a warm bath, a soft bed and a snuggly best friend.

This love bug, Teddy, is our newest walker! He is 90 lbs of floof and love! He will do anything for belly rubs and ice cubes!

Happy “Gotcha Day” to our sweet boy Leo! He has come so far in six years, from a timid bag of bones to a sassy couch hog- and I hardly remember what it was like before him!

The “no dogs on the couch” rule seems to be working well….

This is our newest walking client, Winston. He is a 4 month old Bernedoodle/baby shark.
Still learning that hands are not for eating and legs are not for hu***ng. His favorite things are sticks, stuffies and rabbit p**p- not necessarily in that order. 😂

A PSA- because we love all the dogs, no matter their color or where they came from- but there are some that still break our hearts when we meet them.

This weekends intakes, and many of the subsequent comments and emails, tell me we need to have a chat.

Meet one of our newest friends. As you can see, she has a particular coat pattern known as merle, and light colored eyes. She also appears to be an English Bulldog. We also took in several bulldogs of the French variety, all in shades of “Bulldogs don’t come in these colors”.

And there are many of you who keep saying- they look like my dog. And while I hope that ALL of you adopted those dogs, I know that many of you did not. Meaning- that you financially supported the type of abusive and neglectful breeding practices that are becoming ever popular in an attempt to keep up with the demand for unethically bred bulldog mixes in ✨fancy colors✨that led to creating a dog so unhealthy, he couldn’t even survive an hour long car ride to freedom.

So while I think it’s great that you want to adopt one of our dogs, I also want you to realize that these dogs exist, and the breeders who abuse them exist, because you’re keeping them in business.

French and English Bulldogs don’t come in merle. Or fluffy. Or platinum. Or Isabella. Or black and tan. Or tri color. These are poorly bred, mixed breed dogs whose health was sacrificed in an effort to produce pretty dogs in fancy colors.

Every day dogs die due to human ignorance and greed. Puppy mills stay in business because the public is funding them. Please do better.

Touta and Artemis are new WoofWatchers clients and were a joy to take care of last week, although Jodi is demanding hazard pay after being gassed awake by Artemis, who may have some issues with respecting personal space….
