ABRA, Inc. (All Breed Rescue Angels) a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
Located in NW Indiana is a foster-based rescue group dedicated to saving shelter pets.

We do NOT have a shelter or physical building location. All of our dogs and cats live with volunteers throughout (mostly) Lake and Porter Counties in NW Indiana. Our mission is twofold: to save as many dogs and cats from living their final days in shelters and pounds as we can, and to educate the public so that one day our rescue won’t be necessary. Our Rescue Angels open their homes to foster a d

og or a cat until we are able to get them adopted into a forever home. We pull the most urgent animals: those that have very limited time left, those who won’t be adopted out based on their breed, etc. We do not discriminate. All dogs and cats deserve a chance at love, regardless of age, size, breed, looks, health, etc. We are always in need of foster volunteers. The more foster volunteers we have, the more lives we can save! ABRA provides all vetting and necessary supplies. As a foster volunteer, you provide a warm and loving home! At ABRA, we believe in educating the public on the importance of:

• spaying/neutering
• proper training (the number one reason animals are dumped at shelters is because of behavioral issues that could easily be remedied with proper training)
• the prevalence of dogfighting in our area and its ramifications for the entire community
• proper diet, nutrition and medical care

Tilly knows how to have a good time!!

Adopted out in 2017, Tilly was returned to us due to some changes in her home. Now this sassy senior is once again looking for a forever home!

Seniors are the best! She’s 12ish now, but that doesn’t stop her from loving life to the fullest!
She loves to go for walks, she’s a total sweetheart, and there’s no branch she can’t tackle!

Tilly has always had separation anxiety, and wouldn’t do well in a home where the humans work away full time. However, she’s been doing great in her foster home for a few hours at a time! It may help that she has dog companions. Once she has a slow, proper intro, she enjoys their company!

If you are looking for a perfect little companion to snuggle, share snacks and walk with, Tilly is waiting!

This week has sucked.
The messages from people looking to get rid of their animals...endless.

The returns. Those are the most heartbreaking. And now we have to scramble and beg and plead and try to find foster homes for animals we adopted out 6, 9, 10 years ago. You know, because the market for older pets is so outstanding.

And for the love of God, don't read the comments on ANY social media post. I should know better. The political psychosis gripping so many people, the complete lack of decorum from people whose keyboard gives them false courage and the belief that their opinion is absolute fact. Make a post about ice cream and watch how twisted some people can get. My disdain for humanity is at its peak...

And then I saw this post. And for just a second, my heart felt happy, and for just a moment, a reminder that there are some good people left. I just wish they were more plentiful. This is AMAZING. And what a lucky family, because what they get from those kitties is going to be phenomenal. Lucky cats, even luckier family.

Three incredible puppies still waiting on forever!
Cherub and Malachi are Akita mixes, Theo is 100% APBT.
Cherub and Mal are 4.5 months old. Theo is about 8 months.
All three are so well socialized, so loving, wonderful with everyone and incredibly smart. They cuddle they snuggle they play they zoom!!!

They would all do amazing with another dog buddy, so if you are looking for a fantastic companion for not only your human family, but your dog family, look no further than these three!

Bruce is just about the most handsome cat on the planet. He is such a great boy, and who doesn’t love a ginger chonk? He’s FIV+, great with other cats and people. I just want to smoosh him every time I see his face ❤️

Theo Von wasn’t feeling good so off to the Doc he went! Some antibiotics and he’s back to his usual crazy ginger self! Vocal, outgoing, affectionate and playful.

Nine siblings have been adopted. Two remain.
Four months old and still waiting.

This is Malachi and he is the BEST good boy!
He’s wonderful with everyone, be it canine, feline or human. He’s smart, he’s sweet, he’s playful, loving and loyal.

Adoptions are hard enough these days, especially for adult cats. Somewhere out there, there are cat people ready to add to their family, and hopefully we can reach those people.

We have some purrfect pairs, and they've all been waiting a long time. Sisters, brothers, and brothers from different mothers, all of them wonderful.

Coriander and Mace were rescued from a truck lot in Gary last May when they were just babies. A year later, they are still waiting to find their forever family. These girls are very affectionate, soft and snuggly! They are fostered with other cats and dogs. They are just over a year old.

Jordan and Jonathan Knight just turned 7 years old. They are BIG beautiful boys. Jordan is more outgoing than Jonathan, both are vocal, both are totally loveable purr machines. They lost their owner to cancer and they've been waiting for years to find another family.

Professor Moody and Biscuit are brothers from another mother. Moody is about 1.5 years old, Biscuit is 9 months. They do not HAVE to be adopted together, but they synced up in their foster home immediately and are just TOO adorable together. Both are incredibly sweet and affectionate cats. They are fostered with other cats and dogs and kids.

YOU don't lose value as you age, neither do cats. It's so incredibly hard for adult cats to get adopted. Don't miss out on incredible cats for a superficial reason. They. Are. Amazing.

Spotlight on Theo!!
Theo is such a fantastic puppy! He’s about 8 months old, an APBT, wants to play with every dog and child he meets, loves the beach, very active, and such a loving boy!
Theo needs a family, preferably with a dog to match his energy level. He’s a total doll!
