Do you have a male cat?
Then you need to read this post.

Urinary blockage, or urinary obstruction, is a very common disease that occurs mostly in male cats. This is a condition we see far to often and many male cat owners are unaware that their pet is at risk or what to look for.

It is a life-threatening emergency that must be seen immediately by a veterinarian.

Urinary blockages are caused mostly by the accumulation of minerals in the urinary tract, which can cause a formation of an obstruction by crystals or stones. If not treated, urinary blockages can be fatal.

If you see any of these warning signs, have your cat seen by a veterinarian immediately.

Has your pet ever had laser therapy?

We use laser therapy daily here as a non invasive way to help our patients heal and feel better faster. From things such as wounds or lacerations, to ear infections, neck or back pain and everything in-between.

The therapeutic laser helps by increasing blood flow to bring oxygen and cells involved in the healing process to the area to increase healing, relaxes muscles, and decreases inflammation which decreases pain.

Pets do not mind the short treatments and seem to enjoy the extra attention and leave feeling better than when they came in.

FUN FACT FRIDAY 🐶

Why do dogs pant? There are a lot of things panting can tell us.

The main reason is very simple..
To cool down!

Dogs don't sweat like humans when they're too hot. Instead, they pant. Panting helps circulate air through your dog's body to keep their temperature down. But be sure that panting is not excessive. Dogs that are overheated pant very heavily and will likely appear uncomfortable in some way. They could be restless, laid out flat, and/or not responding to you because they are so focused on cooling themselves.

Other reasons could be

Excitement
Panting is a normal behavioral response when something exciting happens, like meeting new people or getting a treat.

Stress or Anxiety
Similar to dog panting that’s brought on by excitement, dogs also commonly pant and whine when they are stressed.

Pain
It is important to know that dog panting can indicate nausea, discomfort, and pain

If you are ever concerned about what your dogs panting could meab, be sure to contact a veterinarian immediately.

May is Pet Arthritis Awareness Month. It is dedicated to educating pet owners about the warning signs of osteoarthritis and degenerative joint diseases in dogs and getting them the pain relief they need. Because dogs often hide their pain or it gets referred to as"slowing down," awareness is important to emphasize recognizing subtle changes in our dogs day to day lives such as:

Stiffness - Can look like limping on walks or difficulty rising from a laying position

Reduced Mobility - More reluctant to jump up on the bed, difficultly with stairs, not playing as much as usual, or shorter walks.

Behavioral Changes - Not engaging as much as usual, staying in a different room, irritability, or more withdrawn.

Muscle Loss - A noticeable change in muscle tone, especially on the hind end.

It is important as pet owners to be aware of these subtle changes and advocate for their pet. There are fortunately many safe and effective management options such as prescription anti-inflammatories, long acting injections, laser therapy, and more than can give our pets relief from pain. Talk to your veterinarian about how you can help your pet live a more pain free life with you!
