🚨 PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE — DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE HANDING YOUR BABY OVER TO SOMEONE WHO CLAIMS TO BE A DOG GROOMER! 🐾❤️
I’ve been seeing more and more posts lately from people who have never professionally groomed before and have little to no actual grooming experience, offering incredibly low prices because they’re trying to “build their portfolio" Or "Trying Dog Grooming."
As a professional groomer, this honestly makes me cringe — not because I’m worried about competition, but because I’m genuinely worried about the safety of these babies. 🥺🐾
Before you choose someone to groom your dog, PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS!
🐾 Do they have professional grooming education or certification?
🐾 Have they received proper hands-on training?
🐾 Do they know how to safely handle different breeds, coat types, temperaments, and special needs?
🐾 Are they trained in Dog CPR and first aid?
🐾 Do they carry professional liability insurance?
🐾 Do they understand the risks associated with grooming, including heat, dryers, clippers, scissors, skin conditions, elderly dogs, and anxious or medically fragile pets?
Grooming is SO much more than giving a dog a haircut. It requires knowledge, skill, patience, proper handling, safety awareness, and the ability to recognize when something isn't right.
Loving dogs doesn't automatically make someone a groomer. Breeding dogs doesn't automatically make someone a groomer. Watching YouTube videos doesn't replace proper education and hands-on experience.
And please understand — I am not saying this because I’m worried about my own business or because I’m afraid of losing clients. I’m saying this because I love these animals, and the thought of a pet being injured or worse because their owner didn't know what questions to ask absolutely breaks my heart. 💔
Your dog can't tell you if they're scared, uncomfortable, overheated, hurt, or if something doesn't feel right. You are their voice and their advocate.
So before you choose a groomer based solely on the cheapest price, PLEASE do your homework. Ask questions. Visit the facility if possible. Look at their credentials. Ask about their training, insurance, safety procedures, and experience.
Your baby deserves more than the cheapest price — they deserve someone who knows how to keep them safe. 🐶❤️
Please don't be afraid to ask questions. A reputable groomer should welcome them.
Their safety should ALWAYS come before the price of a haircut. 🐾❤️
