A GOOD GROOM ISN’T JUST SOAP + WATER!
Brush before the bath. Water can tighten tangles and mats, especially behind the ears, under the legs and around the collar. A good brush-out before getting wet helps set the stage for a much better bath. It’s something we do before your pup hits the tub, and we recommend doing the same when bathing at home!
A little distraction can go a long way.
For pups who are nervous—or simply less than thrilled about bath time—a lick mat with a favorite dog-safe treat can help create a more positive experience.
If you know your pup gets especially anxious for grooming, talk with your vet about options that may help. Calming chews or pet C*D can also be helpful when used according to their directions.
Bath time is also skin-check time. Once that coat is wet and we’re working shampoo through it, we can often feel things that thick or fluffy fur may hide—bumps, scabs, tender spots, ticks, irritation or trapped debris.
If we notice something concerning, we’ll be sure to mention it to you at pickup. And if you already know about a mole, bump, sensitive spot or other area we should be careful around, please tell us at drop-off so we can take extra-special care.
And don’t forget the collar! While it’s off, it’s the perfect time to give it a wash and check it for wear. Take a peek at those ID tags, too, to make sure they’re still readable and your information is current.
And really…what better time for a fresh new collar than after a fresh new groom?
Bring one along to your appointment and we’ll happily put it on afterward—or browse our collection at Una Rakki and pick out something new that shows off your pup’s (and your) personality.
