MYWY 2026 Mustang Madness ✅
Wow, what a fun weekend! I had a great time competing in Enumclaw at the final competition for the mustang makeover challenge I did with Mustang Yearlings Washington Youth (MYWY). Hazel and I placed 2nd overall in our division!!
My main hope for the weekend was that Hazel would be the calm and collected horse she is at home, and that we could really show off all the skills she has learned. Hazel did just that. I am so proud of our patterns, we did our best and left everything out in the arena. Even in a strange place, staying in a stall, and having a ton of people watching, Hazel still listened and tried so hard to do everything I asked. The only time she got a little tense was during our freestyle, and there was a storm rolling in and lots of wind, but even then she didn't do anything silly!
It still blows my mind that 5 months ago, I couldn't even throw hay into her pen without her panicking, and now she trusts me to lead her through new and stressful situations. She truly is a special horse, and I can't wait to find her her forever home.
I met so many nice people and talented horse trainers this weekend. Thank you to everyone who helped answer my questions or just checked in, it was great getting to know you all!
A special thank you to Bailey for being the best horse show husband out there 🤠 he got our camp set up and tore down, made sure I drank enough water, offered encouragement, held Hazel, and video taped every class I had, among many other things.
This year was extra sentimental. My grandpa passed last October, and I have had the honor of getting to use his truck to haul to all of my horse events. He was always so supportive of my horse training, and would comment on every post and update I made on Facebook. I know he is still supporting me now, and using his truck has made these events extra special.
Congrats again to everyone who competed. So much time and love goes into these horses, and it really shows. At times, it was tough balancing a 40 hour a week job and carving out time to train, but I'm so glad I did. I can't wait until my next horse training adventure!
