We had a wonderful time participating in the Mental Health Awareness Month Scavenger Hunt at Ohio State University at Lima last week. It was a great way to wrap up the month of May 🌿💚

It was wonderful connecting with other local agencies, sharing resources, and helping raise awareness about the importance of mental health in our community. Lola joined us for the day and helped participants experience a simple co-regulation exercise, demonstrating how connection can help us feel calmer, more grounded, and more present.

Did you know? Approximately 1 in 5 U.S. adults experiences a mental health condition each year. Mental health challenges are common, and support matters.

Horses have an incredible ability to respond to human emotions and body language. Their sensitivity to nonverbal communication can help people increase self-awareness, practice emotional regulation, and experience meaningful connection in a unique way.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to visit Lola and learn more about mental health and equine-assisted services! 🐴

35 years young!

This year, we’re celebrating a truly extraordinary milestone for one very special pony - Mister Peek-A-Boo turns 35! Although we had his party two weeks ago, his official birthday is May 28th, 1991.

For perspective, the average lifespan of a horse is typically around 25–30 years, making 35 an incredible accomplishment and a testament to the love, care, and purpose that has filled Mister’s life. Ponies often live a bit longer than horses, but even so, reaching 35 is something worth celebrating in a big way.

Many years ago, Cowan Realtors purchased Mister for our program, and while he may not have arrived with “therapy pony” written in his job description, he eventually found exactly where he belonged. In his younger years, Mister was known for being quite ornery - full of opinions, attitude, and plenty of pony antics. But over time, he transformed into the gentle, dependable therapy pony so many people came to know and love.

Mister has helped countless individuals build confidence, process emotions, find comfort, and share laughter. He has taught patience, resilience, boundaries, and connection - often without saying a thing.

Now enjoying his well-earned retirement, Mister continues to be deeply loved by everyone at the farm. His story reminds us that growth is always possible, purpose can be found in unexpected places, and sometimes the most stubborn ponies become the best teachers.

Happy 35th birthday, Mister Peek-A-Boo. Thank you for everything you’ve given to this program and to the people whose lives you helped change!
