It's a girl 🩷🎉

Our mare in Iceland, Aradís frá Sólbakkahofi (S: Nökkvi frá Syðra-Skörðugili) gave birth to a beautiful black filly by Eldur frá Bjarghúsum (8.35). We are very excited to watch her grow!

Happy 1st Birthday to Pine Spring Knows Her Mind of Sand Meadow CGC TKN ("Zora")! 🎉

When we first discovered the Tornjak breed, we hoped we had found the right fit for our farm and family — a dog with quiet confidence, loyalty, intelligence, steadiness, and enough independence to make good decisions without needing constant direction.

Zora has been everything we hoped for and more.

She is gentle with people, sensible around the horses, affectionate without being clingy, watchful without being dramatic, and beautifully suited to life at Sand Meadow Farm. She is also smart, independent, and very much in possession of her own opinions 😄

Of course, that same intelligence and independence means she can be a challenge. Zora is not a dog who blindly follows along without thinking about it first. She notices everything, evaluates the situation, and then decides whether our suggestion is worthy of her cooperation. Fortunately, she is so worth it.

She is also absolutely beautiful, inside and out, and has already become such a wonderful ambassador for the Tornjak breed. She represents so much of what we love about these dogs: steady, thoughtful, loyal, confident, and deeply connected to her family.

We are incredibly grateful to her breeder Pine Spring Kennel for entrusting us with this amazing girl. We feel lucky to have found the Tornjak breed, and even luckier to have found Zora.

Valur has officially arrived at Sand Meadow Farm and is settling in beautifully. For now, his main job is standing around looking handsome until it’s time to meet the mares. He seems fully qualified. 😎

Sindri from Sand Meadow, owned by Debbie Noto, graced us with a visit today on his way home from our friends at Taktur Icelandic Horses, LLC . He’s looking all grown up, very handsome, and just a little bit aware of it. 😉 Thanks to for another safe trip.

New bridle day for Töggur! His Ástund bridle has a beautiful browband… allegedly. Most of the sparkle is currently under several inches of very determined forelock.

To properly appreciate the bling, he’ll just need to tölt fast enough for the hair to fly. 🏎️😂

Fleygur’s immigration journey continued yesterday with the highly glamorous portion of the process: veterinary maintenance. 😂

Huge thanks to Dr. Ayers from Genesee Valley Equine Clinic, PLLC for giving him “the works” — initial vaccinations, teeth floated, Coggins pulled, and sheath cleaned.

Since horses from Iceland arrive with no vaccinations, getting these essentials done promptly is an important part of helping new imports stay healthy, comfortable, and ready for their new life here.

Not exactly a vacation day for Fleygur, but definitely an important one. 🇮🇸➡️🇺🇸
