Homestretch for Capo and Eddie. 💪

These two are heading home in just a few days and got to show off their new skills in public today. We worked through a busy park with people walking by, dogs passing, and even acquaintances stopping us to chat while the boys relaxed and stayed neutral.

To end on a good note, we grabbed some food, water, and shade at a food truck court, where they got to relax and just be dogs.

Eddie came to us with dog reactivity and simply needed structure. Capo is an excitable puppy who, despite being a completely different dog, thrives with that same structure. Different dogs, same foundation.

These two have come so far, and I know their owners will continue putting in the work so they can keep getting better.

So proud of these boys. I’m definitely going to miss them when they head back home to their families. ❤️

🎓 Demure’s Graduation Day 🐾

When I first met Demure, he bit me during his evaluation.

When I picked him up, he needed a muzzle and two slip leads just to safely get him to the truck. For the first few days of training, he growled every time I approached him because the world felt like a scary place.

Today, he’s a completely different dog.

The same dog who once reacted out of fear can now calmly sit while people walk right by him. He’s learned that staying calm and trusting his handler gets him much farther than reacting ever could.

This is why I love what I do. Helping dogs build confidence and showing them the world doesn’t have to be something to fear.

Congratulations, Demure. I’m proud of you, buddy. 👏🐾

If your dog sees the world as something to fear, they don’t have to live that way forever.

Send me a message, and let’s build your dog’s confidence together.

Late night sessions hit different. 🌙

Tonight Eddie and Goose joined us for a late night walk. Not only did they walk side by side, but they stayed focused while people stopped us to talk, cars drove by, and dogs barked behind fences.

This is where the strengths and flaws of their training really start to show. Their neutrality is what stood out the most tonight—and that’s one of the most valuable skills a dog can have.

Every walk is different. Every dog is different. There’s always something to improve, and that’s the fun part.

What’s the perfect dog?

A while ago, I probably would’ve said it’s the dog with a wall full of titles, flawless obedience, and never makes a mistake.

Now? I think the perfect dog is the one that comes into your life when you least expect it. The one that isn’t perfect. The one that makes mistakes, learns from them, and still chooses to be by your side every day.

Titles, accolades, and pedigree don’t make the dog. They can tell part of the story, but they don’t define it.

The relationship you build, the time you invest, and the trust you earn—that’s what makes a great dog.

Don’t chase the “perfect” dog. Build the perfect relationship with the dog you have.

Let’s talk about training equipment, its purpose, and how it all works together.

One thing we don’t do at Bombshell Kennels is just throw a prong collar or e-collar on a dog and expect it to listen. Every tool has a purpose, and every tool is introduced with clear communication.

Slip Lead:
One of my favorite tools because it’s so versatile. I can create distance or shorten it instantly. I can apply pressure, release it, or let the dog make the choice. The dog learns that its decisions control the pressure, which builds understanding.

Prong Collar:
Prongs may look intimidating, but they’re designed with blunted ends and are meant to communicate, not punish. Most of the time, I never have to give a hard correction. A simple tap is usually enough because the dog already understands what’s being asked.

E-Collar:
Freedom. Once a dog understands pressure, boundaries, and expectations, the e-collar becomes a hands-free leash. It reinforces everything the dog learned on the slip lead and prong, giving you reliable communication and your dog the freedom to safely enjoy more of the world.
