Day Trains Toni, Luna, and Bacho, along with Board and Trains Teddi and Reese, had a busy day full of obedience sessions, treadmill work, and playgroup

Bacho, Luna, Teddi, Kewpie, and Reese also got to indulge in a sweet little treat for National Donut Day with some donuts and whipped cream

Bacho, Reese, and Teddi finished the day with a park trip and some swimming, with a bigger focus on engagement and leash walking.

A pretty great Friday if you ask us 🐾

Day Trains focused on recall work, inside obedience sessions, treadmill sessions and playgroup today 🐶

Therapy class put in the work with a packed class introducing the walker and crutches. Working on our duration stays of sit and downs. Leash walking and neutrality work around a new dog. While ending with “leave it” practice in the store front around all the treats and being offered cheese sticks. 🐾

Board and Train Teddi and Reese both did obedience sessions in the yard, store area, training rooms, and out front to proof obedience skills. They also worked on settling on place with day trains. Leash walking sessions, recall, and ended with some flirt pole fun.

Earlier we posted our Dutch Shepherd and Australian Cattle Dog, Lisse and Hero, out on the trail off leash and recalling on a dime. What you didn't see was all the foundation work that went into getting there.

Some of the pieces of that foundation included engagement games, our name game, and teaching them that hearing "Lisse" or "Hero" meant something valuable was coming. We also spent time working on a long line, teaching them that "Dog's Name, Here" meant to come back to us. Those are just a few of the building blocks that help create a reliable recall.
One thing I like to teach my own dogs and client dogs is to either recall into heel or come back and stay with me until they're released with "free." I want coming back to be more than just a drive-by check-in.

Teddi is just getting started on some of those recall foundations, and we'll be building on them every day over the next few weeks. This little clip is the beginning of something really awesome for him and his owner.

Stay tuned for our upcoming Recall Class dates! 🐾

🐾 Things I did with our Board & Train puppy before 10am today:

• Early morning potty break
• Breakfast
• Potty break again
• Crated for the car ride to work
• Potty break coming out of the car
• Engagement games
• Flirt pole session
• Worked on sit, down, and place
• Potty break
• Settle/place work

What I ignored:
• Whining/crying on place
• Jumping on me
• Some whining in the car

What I acknowledged and praised:
• Settling on place
• Sitting for pets and attention
• Quieting in the car
• Pottying outside on leash

This puppy hasn't learned any of this because they're "good."

They're learning because every single interaction is teaching them something.

Every choice we make with our puppies is either reinforcing behaviors we want or behaviors we don't. Puppies are always learning, whether we're actively training or not.
