Post-Op Care Doesn’t Stop When Surgery Ends!
The procedure may be over, but recovery is just as important as anesthesia and surgery itself.
This sweet angel baby is getting some well-deserved TLC while recovering from spay.
During the postoperative period, our veterinary team closely monitors patients as they wake up, including:
Temperature: anesthesia can cause body temperature to drop, so active warming, such as a Bair Hugger, may be used when appropriate.
Heart rate & rhythm: keeping a close eye on cardiovascular function as the patient wakes up.
Respiratory rate & oxygenation: monitoring breathing and oxygen levels during recovery.
Pain control: assessing comfort and providing appropriate pain management.
Mentation & recovery: watching for a smooth, controlled wake-up and making sure the patient is becoming appropriately responsive.
Comfort & safety: soft bedding, warmth, positioning, and one-on-one observation all help make recovery as safe and comfortable as possible.
That sleepy face may look like the patient is simply taking a cozy nap… but there’s a whole veterinary team behind the scenes making sure every part of recovery is carefully monitored. 🐾💙
