š§ļø KJM Schooling Show Recap š“
The KJM Schooling Show brought some weather our way this go-round, along with plenty of unexpected changes and adaptations.
Itās easy to let days like this feel stressful, but the truth isāthis is horse showing. These situations will happen again and again. You ride in the rain, get ready in the rain, clean your horse only to battle them rolling right afterward, and somehow try to keep your show clothes dry just to have them soaked anyway. š
Then come the ring changes, changes in footing, changes in the environment, and new challenges for both horse and rider. The list goes on!
But these are exactly the moments when we get to teach our horses and riders how to adapt, stay calm, and keep moving forward. These conditions are part of the world our horses live in, and learning how to navigate them is just as important as getting the perfect round.
Our riders learned their courses in their original rings, only to have the rings changed and have to learn them all over again. There were nerves about whether the horses would accept the indoor arena and all of the changes that came with it.
And I am SO proud of them.
They went with the flow. They trusted their training. They worked through the nerves and proved to themselves that they can do hard thingsāand so can their horses. ā¤ļø
We had some great competition and were fortunate to be in the ribbons throughout the day. Some competitors made the decision to stay and ride, while others chose to head home. We chose to stay and allow the experience to teach usānot only what we are doing well, but also where we still have room to grow.
Despite the weather, the changes, the nerves, and the unexpected turns, our riders continued to show up and overcome hurdle after hurdle. We were able to earn ribbons in every round, but more importantly, we walked away with experience that simply canāt be taught in a lesson at home.
I am incredibly proud of our riders, our horses, and our ponies for taking on a challenging day and embracing every unexpected turn that came their way.
Some days are about ribbons.
Some days are about resilience.
And some days are about both. šā¤ļøš“
Today was definitely both.
