Rory Shanks is a distinguished 9-year-old gentleman who has been patiently waiting for his forever home for over a year.

When Rory was found, one of our veterinary technicians discovered him extremely emaciated and missing many of his front teeth. Despite his difficult past, Rory has shown just how special and resilient he truly is.

Rory is a creature of routine, and he absolutely thrives when he knows what to expect from his day. He is incredibly potty trained and will patiently hold it until he gets his regular outings. He is accustomed to going outside at least three times a day and loves his walks. Every now and then, he may even surprise you with a little playful energy!

But when Rory decides he is finished, he will make sure you know it. At that point, he's ready to head back inside, find a comfy spot, and settle into his favorite role: professional couch potato. 🛋️

Once Rory gets to know you, his affectionate side really shines. He loves spending time with the people he trusts and would be happiest in a home where he can enjoy a calm, predictable routine and all the comforts he deserves.

And yes, sometimes Rory can be a little bit of a grumpy old man. But don't take it personally! Rory simply likes to do things on his schedule and appreciates having the freedom to dictate when he's ready for attention, playtime, walks, or relaxation.

Rory has spent far too long waiting. What he truly wants is a quiet, comfortable life where he can enjoy his golden years surrounded by someone who understands and appreciates him.

Give Rory the leisurely life he deserves, and in return, you may just gain the best buddy you could ever imagine. ❤️

This Saturday, the Abita Beer Garden is going to the DOGS… literally. 😂🐶

Pups & Pints is back September 5th from 11 AM–2 PM, and we’re bringing some of our adoptable pups to Abita Tap Room in Covington to meet YOU!

And did we mention… ADOPTIONS ARE 50% OFF?! 🎉🏡

Grab an Abita beer, get some food from Wild Tom and the High Man, hang out in the Beer Garden and meet a few pups who would really love to make the ride home with you. ❤️

💔 SIX YEARS.

Imagine spending almost six years of your life waiting for someone to come back for you.

That is the reality for this sweet boy. He is 7 years and 8 months old, and he has spent almost SIX YEARS in a shelter.

And yet… he still loves ❤️

He loves his walks. He loves his routine. He loves rolling in the grass. He loves cooling off in his baby pool. And when the hose comes out, he turns into a goofy puppy again running through the water and trying to snap at it! 😂💦

He is also house trained, very treat motivated, and incredibly loyal. When he gives you his trust, he forms a deep bond with his person. He will love you with his whole heart.

Yes, he has some arthritis in his back legs and needs medication. But arthritis doesn’t define him. It doesn’t keep him from enjoying his walks, playing, exploring, or having fun. He simply needs someone willing to give him the medication he needs and let him enjoy life at his own pace ❤️

He does need a very special home, and we want to be honest about that so we can find the right person for him.

🏡 Quiet home with very little foot traffic
👤 Best with one person or possibly two adults
🚫 No children
🚫 No dogs
🐱 A cat can be possible with a proper introduction
❤️ Someone patient enough to build his trust
🦴 Someone who will keep him on his medication and maintain his routine

He isn’t a dog who should be rushed into a new home. He needs someone willing to visit him several times a week and spend a few weeks getting to know him before adoption or foster.

But think about what those few weeks could mean…

Our Golden Paws program had such a wonderful time visiting the residents at Roquette Lodge!

This visit, we brought along our dog trainer, Emily, who helped teach residents about pet behavior and shared some helpful tips and tricks for better understanding our four-legged companions. She answered questions and gave residents practical advice they can use with the pets they love!

We also talked about the importance of routine veterinary care and making sure pets receive the treatment, prevention and medical attention they need to live happy, healthy lives 🩺🐾

Of course, there were plenty of smiles, great conversations and furry cuddles along the way! ❤️

A huge thank you to Roquette Lodge for welcoming us. We loved spending the day with your residents!
